Book Review – Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan

November 1, 2012

I’m not a big reader of chick-lit but sometimes you just want a nice book to curl up with and relax. Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe is the perfect book for this. It’s a nice easy going read and was the perfect book to take on holiday.

The book is about Issy, an office manager who is made redundant and follows a lifelong passion for baking and opens a little cake shop. Her grandfather had been a baker and it was something she had done her whole life.

The book follows her struggles running the business and her troubled love life.

The book is very well written and I love Jenny Colgans writing style and the way she tells the story from the point of view of all the characters.

The story is charming and the characters are engaging and believable. The book is very easy to glide through and I found I couldn’t put it down and managed to read it in just 2 days.

One of my favourite things was the little cake recipes at the beginning of each chapter. Combining two of my favourite things baking and reading!

I’ve just started the sequel Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe which has just come out, so look out for a review in the next couple of days.

You’ll love this book if… You fancy a chilled out girly read and you love cake!

Be warned by the end of this book you’ll want to quit your job and start baking for a living!
