Book Review – Vintage Wedding Style

If your planning a wedding for next year and would like to go for a vintage theme then I’d recommend this as a great place to start. Written by Elizabeth Demon, a wedding planner from Southern America the book features real life weddings and all the inspiration you could need to achieve the looks yourself.

The book is broken down into individual themes and each theme features a real wedding and instructions to source vintage items and ‘how-to’ craft guides to make your own wedding items.

There are 12 vintage wedding themes in the book including Reviving Gatsby – for a deco inspired historical theme, Two-Ring Circus – for a retro carnival theme and Schoolhouse rock which embraces chalk boards, lined paper and classroom chairs. Each look is clearly laid out with beautiful real wedding pictures, mood boards for inspiration and little things that you can make to recreate the look on your spacial day.

The book is beautifully bound and large enough to sit on a coffee table to be dipped in and out of. Although I am already married and won’t be organising a wedding there are plenty of ideas in the book that could be used fr home decor, or for any other party or event. If you were planning a party for a big birthday you could use any of the themes to create a vintage style event.

The book was originally written for the American market and the weddings featured all took place in America however the ideas are all timeless classics so I think they would translate well into more tradition British weddings.

The biggest wedding trends of recent years have been vintage and customisation, both of which can work really well within a tight budget. Why spend thousands of pounds on a wedding when you can create some of the most expensive items yourself. Why not do your own flowers, create your own wedding stationary and thrift most of the decor. Even buying a vintage wedding dress and having it altered to fit can work out cheaper than buying a new one and you can guarantee that no one else will have the same dress.

Of the 25 DIY projects in the book my favourites include the vintage fabric napkin rings – so easy to source and make, the vintage map votive candles – so stylish and perfect for a tight budget, and the collage paperweights – the perfect favour, you can create whatever look you like and your guests will be able to treasure them forever. All the projects come with a time frame so you can plan exactly how long you need before the wedding to get them done.

The book is photo driven and has the prefect balance between pictoral inspiration and ideas, projects and resources. It is the best vintage wedding book I’ve seen so far. So if you’re a bride to be with an individual style and a love of the past then this is the book for you.
