Vintage Shopping – Judy’s at Spitalfields

August 6, 2013

I have been a very busy mummy this last week, and it’s been lovely but I’ve not spent much time online so I have lot’s of catching up to do! On Saturday my lovely husband suggested I get out of the house to do a little vintage shopping, obviously I jumped at the chance, especially as I knew Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair was in town.

So off I headed into London with a quick stop to watch some of the hundreds of cyclists who had turned out for Ride London. It looked like so much fun that I wanted to go straight out and buy a bike. I love it when London hosts big events like this, and this one seemed so cheerful and inclusive.

Anyway back to the vintage. I have never been to one of Judy’s fairs before, it’s one of the only London fairs I’ve not sold at at some point so I was really looking forward to seeing what was on offer. I was not disappointed. The selection of stalls was excellent, with a great balance between clothing, home wares and jewellery. The vintage on offer was all old enough to be in my opinion “true vintage”.

I loved the location of The Old Spitalfields Market, with it history and fantastic atmosphere it set the cloths off brilliantly. All the stall holders seemed friendly and knowledgeable and the prices were fantastic – much cheaper than online. Highlights for me were a couple of much older vintage pieces I spotted from the 20s and thirties which are now so rare.

I was on the lookout for a pretty cotton fifties dress and there were plenty on offer. walked round the whole fair 3 or 4 times to make sure I hadn’t missed anything before I settled on a stunning fifties shirt waister. I will be revealing it later this week in an outfit post, so I will be able to show it off then. The best thing of all was the price, it was marked t £45 and I got it for £40 which in my opinion is a great price for a mint condition fifties dress. Much cheaper than it would have been on Ebay!

I had a fab time at Judy’s and if your a Londoner who for some reason has not visited yet, I would really recommend this one. Entry is free as well so you can save those pennies for more vintage treats.

I hadn’t planned on blogging about the fair so only took a couple of pics – next time I will do better – promise!

My heart would have skipped many a beat over that darling 1940s dress, too. What a pity it was beyond salvage 🙁 Hopefully you’ll come across another similar one someday that’s in tip-top shape.

Big hugs & oodles of joyful wishes for the week ahead,
    ♥ Jessica
