Loveable Brogues

September 19, 2013

As the weather gets colder and wetter, it feels like time to put my beloved ballet pumps away and start thinking about slightly more practical footwear.

One style of winter shoe I particularly love is the brogue. They are comfortable, smart and practical and they look really nice too. they also can be worn with skirts, dresses or trousers so they’re a great all-rounder, and definitely first on my list of winter must-haves.

I particularly like the brogues on offer in Clarks, there are cheaper options out there but I like the quality and want something leather that will last all winter. There is a lot of choice of design too, but these are my favourites…

Clarks Brogues | Vintage Frills

I love the plainer styles as they would look great with vintage dresses and suits, however I can never resist a bit of leopard print so had to include those too, although I would pair them up with a simple black dress.

What’s your favourite winter footwear?

I love brogues too, but here in the US we are more likely to call them Oxfords. I have a super pair by Ralph Lauren, found at an antiques mall, and last year I splurged on a pair of Cole Haan Lunergrands. I love those with the plaid that you have pictured.

These are so very darling! One of the newer pairs of cold weather shoes that I just adore (thrifted from Salvation Army early last year) is a 1940s style pair of black brogue-esque shoes with a bit of a sturdy heel to them. They won’t do the job during the chillest, most snow covered of days, but they’re fantastic the rest of the time, assuming one isn’t planing to be outside for hours in below freezing temps. They go with everything, are very comfy, and really do look the mid-century part. What I need though, is a pair of vintage or vintage appropriate snow boots – it’s a little bit amazing that I’ve gone so many long, freezing Canadian winters without them!

I’m such a big fan of brogues – they almost never leave my feet, even in summer! I love the comfier flat-heeled ones, but at the moment my faves are my mid-heel two tone black and white ones (bought them from New Look years ago, and still going strong after a couple of re-heelings!). I managed to snag a black and white Clarks mens version from a charity shop a while ago – my boyfriend loves them. Great post 🙂
