Braving The Cold

November 21, 2013

As the cold weather begins to set in, the appeal of staying in the warm and not going out really takes hold. I’m the worst for cranking the heating up, making a culpa and wrapping myself up in blankets. However I made the decision yesterday that I had to go out and do something fun with Lila as often as possible and not become a recluse!

So today we wrapped up warm and headed out to Carshalton to enjoy one of our favourite parks despite the freezing wind and steady drizzle. The Grove Park in Carshalton village is absolutely stunning, with the River Wandle flowing through it as well as bordering with Carshalton Ponds. It has a really interesting history which you can read more about here.

The river flowing through the park.

Waterfall.

What remains of the mill which used to be here.

The view of All Saints Church across Carshalton Ponds (shame about the busy road)

One of the things I love most about the park is how many squirrels there are and we always bring a big bag of monkey nuts to feed them as well as some bread for the birds.

A cute little squirrel.

A beautiful swan, we didn’t feed the water birds as apparently bread isn’t good for them.

I had slightly underestimated just how hungry the squirrels would be, I guess with the cold setting in, fewer people go and feed them. we ended up completely surrounded by about 40 squirrels, so desperate were they for food that they actually started climbing up my legs!

He may look cute, but he will attack you for food!

I was also attacked by a gang of very hungry gulls, Lila of course thought it was hilarious and enjoyed every second!

These guys were like something out of ‘The Birds!”

That blurry thing in front of my face is actually a crazy gull!

Once we had run out of food we made a hasty retreat, and had a little walk around the park and along the river. All in all an absolutely lovely morning, and something I will do as often as possible despite the cold.

My outfit details.

Love (!!!) your leopard print coat! It looks as soft and cuddly as a teddy bear (I say that as an entirely good thing).

    Have a splendid weekend,
    ♥ Jessica
