Tartan Trend the Vintage Way

March 4, 2014

I absolutely love tartan and always have. It must be something to do with the teeny bit of Scottish in me, or maybe the 90s kid in me – who knows? I love it!

Tartan seems to be absolutely everywhere on the high street at the moment, but if you prefer something a little more classic then there are also plenty of options for the vintage girl in you. Feeling that red and green was a little obvious I put together a little look using blue and green which looks ridiculously elegant paired with a feminine black blouse.

I love the cigarette trousers from Collectif they are just so classic and could work with both a casual and smart look. The pencil skirt from 20th Century Foxy is so elegant and feminine and would make an excellent wardrobe staple.

Christina Patent Bag – £55 – Collectif,

30s Tie Neck Blouse – £35 – 20th Century Foxy

Bonnie Blackwash Cigarette Trousers – £45 – Collectif

50s Blue Tartan Pencil Skirt – £50 – 20th Century Foxy

Black Bow Barrette – £6 – Miss Selfridge

Black Strappy Peep Toe Shoes – £24.99 – New Look

What do you think of the tartan trend? Do you wear it? What do you think of my choices?

Ooh those trousers! Love them but they wouldn’t love me. That skirt on the other hand ticks both boxes – nice choices!

The trousers are very out of my comfort zone. Very sad as I LOVE them.

How fabulous that tartan is having a moment again! It’s always been a firm favourite of mine as well. Part of the reason for this is definitely because the first handbag I remember having as a small child (around the age of five) was classic red Scottish tartan complete with two little faux leather tassels. I’d totally still rock that bag today if I still have it (I don’t; haven’t seen it in probably 20+ years at this point).

I agree with the other comments! I love the trousers but they would look quite tragic on me…! I do love tartan though! I have literally had ‘make a tartan dress’ on my ‘to sew’ list for what seems forever! 🙂

I’m too scared to sew tartan! I’m terrible at pattern matching, otherwise I would make on in a flash!
