Unfinished Sewing Projects

I am absolutely terrible for starting sewing projects and not finishing them. This is partly because they are quite time-consuming and i don’t get much opportunity to sew and also because I tend to get a bit bored and move on to something else.

I thought I would set myself a little challenge for April and try to get 5 sewing projects finished by the end of the month. They are all at different degrees of completion. A couple just need an hour or twos work, the others need a little more commitment. I’d like to have them all finished so I can wear them in the summer, so I’m going to put half an hour aside each day to get them finished. I’ll report back at the end of the month so you can see if I actually did make any progress.

The first item is a skirt I started making for the Fall For Cotton challenge back in August. It’s a full circle skirt made using a vintage fabric. I was all set to get this done in time for the September deadline and then my sewing machine started playing up, and eventually broke so the project went on the back burner. I have since bought a new machine but never picked this piece of sewing back up. I had actually forgotten about it until I dug the pieces from the back of my sewing cupboard a few days ago.

This one need the most work as I’ve got no further than a couple of seams. I’d really like to make this skirt pattern a few more times for the summer so I’m treating this one a practice run.

The pink dress is very near complete, I just need to sew the hem and finish the zip, so this isn’t a big project. It’s  a really pretty fifties style dress with a circle skirt, made with a fabric I bought on Ebay and trimmed with pink binding.

The second dress is a more recent project which I started last month. It’s made from a vintage sheet I bought at a car boot sale. It still needs sleeves adding, a hem and the zip to be attached and I’d also like to trim it with some ric rac and maybe add a sash. This is definitely the biggest project to get finished but I love the fabric and can’t wait to wear it.

The third dress, also made from a vintage sheet is nearly complete and just needs to have the zip finished off and the hem sewn, I absolutely love this dress and will be wearing this loads when its done. I also got the same fabric in a different colour so I’d really like to make this dress again.

The last dress is completely finished, but it’s a little big so I’m just going to take the darts in a little bit.

My main reason for sharing this on here, is that I absolutely have to get this little challenge done now!
