Derby Teacakes from a 1950s Recipe

June 28, 2014

Today I have another recipe from my 1954 magazine. A couple of weeks ago I had a go at Sally Lunns which went down a treat in my house and these Derby Teacakes were eaten up in no time as well. In case you missed my post last week, I explained that I had found an articles on traditional British recipes in a copy of the Women’s Journal from 1954 and wanted to give them all a try. It’s amazing how many of these aren’t commonly baked these days, so move over cupcakes these recipes are making a come back starting here!

This was another really quick and easy recipe and I already had all the ingredients which are just basic baking ingredients. I had no idea how these would turn out as there was no picture in the magazine. I think they are probably meant to be a bit thicker, as they are meant to be sliced, but I quite liked the chunky biscuits I ended up with. Jessica was a little disappointed when she realised it contained currents and not chocolate chips!

I’m really enjoying trying out these vintage recipes. Let me know if you give any of them a try. xxx

Those look so wonderfully yummy! I want to dip them into a big mug of tea right this very minute, curl up with a good book, and let the daily worries slip away while I savour each crunchy, tasty morsel and moment. 🙂

Ooh they look delicious, I may have to try making these. Aha, I always used to get dissapointed when currants turned out not to be chocolate chips when I was a little kid…and admittedly still do.
