I Got New Make-up!

September 10, 2014

This year I’ve been trying to cut down on my spending a little (boo!) and one of the things I’ve been spending less on is make-up and cosmetics. I’m definitely one of those people who goes to Boots for one thing and comes out with a whole bag of unplanned beauty treats. So naturally it’s been hard. I had actually got to the point where I had used up most of my everyday make-up stash, and was ready for some new bits.

Make-up 1

My lovely husband came to Boots with me to help me choose some new bits. My original plan had been to stick to my usual tried and tested products, however that wouldn’t be very exciting would it? So as well as a couple of my trusty go-to products I also picked up a few new ones too.

As a very busy mum with limited time to get dolled up in the morning I always wear the same everyday make-up and only switch it up if I’m going out or for special occasions, I can always add a bright lipstick to glam it up a bit if needed. So these are all products that I plan to use as my staples. I’m not really wearing foundation at the moment as I have quite clear skin so I didn’t bother to pick up a new one this time.

So heres my little Boots beauty haul…

Firstly I picked up my old reliable Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. This is a favourite with me and most other bloggers, because it is absolutely fantastic. I’ve been using this for a couple of years now and I love it’s excellent coverage. I don’t get nearly enough sleep and this covers up my dark circles nicely.

Next is a product that new to me, Soap and Glory’s Kick Ass is a translucent pressed powder. As I don’t wear foundation everyday I like to finish my make-up with a little powder for an even finish. I wanted to try a barely there powder as I don’t really need one with much coverage. I’ve always been really happy with Soap and Glory make-up so I’m looking forward to giving this a try.

Also for the face I bought a Soap and Glory Glow All Out face powder, which I have had before but not used for a long time. I’m just going to use this for highlighting.

I’ve never tried Sleek products before, mainly because they’ve only just started stocking them in my local Boots. I’ve heard great things about their blush palettes, so I couldn’t resist getting this pretty pink Blush By 3 trio. I generally prefer matte blushers, but I’m going to give these slightly shimmery ones a try.

The other Sleek product I got was the Bronze Block, I got the lighter shade as I like my bronzer to be as subtle as possible. Again this has a subtle shimmer which I don’t usually go for, but it might be nice to have a brighter glowing look as the weather get less bright and glowy!

I don’t usually wear eye shadow as part of my everyday make-up, just a little eyeliner. This time I did pick up something to add a little colour to my eyelids. I treated myself to a Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in the shade Bluffing. I’ve read lot’s of positive review of these on other blogs, and like the idea of using this for a slightly darker autumn look.

When it comes to liquid eyeliner, I’m very fussy. It’s one thing that I wear nearly every day so it needs to be easy to apply and last all day. It also needs to be a nice dark black as some can come out slightly grey. I have tried lot’s of high-end and budget ones and for the last year I have actually been in love with Primark’s £1 liquid eyeliner which is amazingly good for the price. I’ve not been able to find it in my local Primark recently and have worked my way through the 4 tubes I bought last time i spotted it, so it was time to try something new. I chose Rimmel’s Glam Eyes Liquid Liner because it has a nice long thin brush and the colour looks really dark. I’ll let you know how I get on with this one.

Lastly mascara, I’ve mostly been using Benefit’s They’re real mascara recently as well as a Soap and Glory one, but while I was in Boots I picked up another trusted favourite of mine The Falsies Mascara from Maybelline is absolutely fantastic at creating long looking full lashes and I’m so glad to have it back in my make-up bag.

Have you tried any of the products I bought today? Would you like me to do a post featuring my everyday make-up using these products? I’ve added it to my list!

Lovely beauty haul! I haven’t tried any of these products, but I am massive fan of Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara (it’s my favourite mascara ever) and all of the brand’s offerings in general.

I also like the Primark Liquid Liner – It’s one of the best ones I have ever used. I’m also having trouble finding it, so may try the Glam Eyes as it has a similar brush
