October Birchbox Review

October 21, 2014

Oct Birchbox 2

Another month, another fantastic Birchbox. Yet again I’m a little late in posting a review of this months box. I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had any time to fit in a good pamper session! For those of you unfamiliar with Birchbox, it’s a monthly beauty box subscription. Every month you receive a lovely box full of surprise beauty treats.

Oct Birchbox 1

This months box came with a great selection of treats all packed in a handy little make-up bag which I will be using to keep my compact and lipstick in my handbag. I love little bonus gifts like this as they come in so handy.

Oct Birchbox 5

The first product I tried from the box was the Cattier Pink Clay Face Mask. I got two sachets of this in my box and I was really impressed with the amount of product in each. There was enough for two applications in each and as I absolutely loved this product I’m glad to get a few uses out of it. I could feel the mask getting to work as soon as I applied it. After removal my skin felt soft and looked really healthy and glowing. At £4.25 it’s also a really affordable product, so I will definitely be repurchasing and using this regularly.

Next to try was the KMS California Free Shape Quick Blow Dry. I have a lot of very thick hair, which takes an age to dry so I’m always keen to try products which speed up my blow dry. I have used this one once and it definitely did help my hair dry quicker and left it feeling soft and conditioned. I really liked the product and thought the scent was lovely too. I will probably use up the generous sample size which came in the box, but as I have so many hair products already which I love this probably won’t be a repurchase for me for now. For full price product costs £14.

The third product in the box was Shaveworks the Cool Fix. This is a cooling lotion which treats ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and other inconveniences of hair removal. I have only used this once so I think it’s too soon to say how well it works, however I did find it really soothing and cooling and as a regular waxer I will continue to use the sample and see how I get on with it. The full price product is £11.

I’ve used the Pixi by Petra Shea Butter Lip Balm a lot since the box arrived. I love receiving lip products as they are something I can use every day. This is a fabulous little lip balm which is really smooth to apply and is extremely moisturising. I love the subtle hint of colour as well. It’s a great addition to a speedy morning make-up routine so I’ll definitely be using this a lot. I’ll also be checking out other products from the range as this was a winner for me. The full prices product costs £8.

The last product was Premae Mild Dermabrasion Face and Body Scrub. As the most expensive product in the box, I was surprised not to be very impressed with this one. Firstly I think the olive granules were too big, so rather than be exfoliating I found them a bit scratchy. I don’t have sensitive skin at all but I found this a bit harsh for the face and would definitely use it more as a body product. It also didn’t have any fragrance so it didn’t redeem itself by smelling nice either. So this was a bit of a let down for me. The full-sized product costs £25.

Another bonus gift in the box was a Birchbox lipstick pen. When I first opened the box it looked a bit like something you’d find in Ann Summers, but fortunately on closer examination I realised it was a pen!

Oct Birchbox 9

This months Birchbox was supporting the CoppaFeel campaign which encourages women to check their breast regularly for signs of breast cancer. This is really important ladies! As someone who has worked closely with breast cancer sufferers I know what a devastating illness it can be. When caught early it is far more treatable so make sure you keep an eye for any changes and check yourself regularly. Click on the image below to enlarge for signs to look out for.

Great review! Every last one of these products is new to me (I suspect we don’t have these brands in Canada – or at least in my small town) and I must say, I’d be eager to try at least a couple (like the mask) if we did. They gave their users a really nice, well mixed selection of products and sound/look like they’re one of the better beauty boxes out there.
