Dot Com Gift Shop Press Day Vintage Frills

Last month on the hottest day of the year, I headed to London to one of my favourite press days so far. When I arrived at the Dot Com Gift Shop press day I was handed a lovely fan and some water, which was much needed after a very hot journey on the tube. That’s exactly what I love about Dot Com Gift Shop, they have everything covered. Be it a fan on a hot day or a handy handbag poncho for rainy days.

They certainly have a gift for every person and every occasion I can think of and as I looked at all their lovely stock I kept spotting gifts that I would love to give to people I know. Personally I’m always on the look out for things for my little girls and there was plenty that I know they would absolutely love.

Retro Pencil Sets Kids Stocking Fillers Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage FrillsThere are lots of different themes and ranges, so sweet little stocking fillers like these pencils can be chosen in a colour and pattern to suit different personalities. These would also be perfect for kids party bags. I plan to get a couple to keep in my bag for train journeys and holidays.

Vintage Style Lunch Boxes Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

I also loved all their cute little lunch boxes and water bottles. The vintage inspired designs really appeal to me and I like the thought of the girls having something a bit different. If you don’t have little ones these would also be cute and kitsch for taking your grown up lunch into work.

Dot Com Gift Shop British Wildlife Range Vintage FrillsFor lunches at home, this lovely British wildlife themed range is also really lovely. I have both hedgehogs and foxes coming my garden so the girls would love these too.

Wooden Toys Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

Tin Can Alley Game Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

Traditional Wooden Toys Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

The range of traditional and wooden toys is amazing. They all remind me of the toys that my grandma had kept from when my dad was growing up, so they make me feel hugely nostalgic for when I was a little girl who loved playing with them. In a world of plastic toys and gadgets, stepping back to something more simple is absolutely lovely. My favourite would have to be the tin can alley game as it would look amazing in a vintage inspired nursery or bedroom.

Children's Gifts Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

Bluebird Cushion and Kitchenware Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

Retro Floral Tableware Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage FrillsAnother highlight for me was the pretty kitchen and glassware, especially the retro flower and apple designs. They remind me of both original 60s designs and also Orla Kiely prints. I have my eye on the glasses and tins especially.

Vintage Perfume Bottles Mini Milkbottles Glass Baubles Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage FrillsI love glass items for my home and the lovely vintage style perfume bottles would look really lovely in a bathroom or dressing table. The cute little school milk bottles could be used for flowers or for a party with cocktails for adults or little milkshakes for a kids party. Party, Paper Straws and Cake Cases Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

As an avid baker I always try to pick up pretty cake cases whenever I see them, at Dot Com Gift Shop not only do they have a great range of baking accessories but also lots of party decorations to match. They even have invitations, so if you have a party to organise it’s a great one stop shop.

Christmas Decorations Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

And of course Christmas is covered, with lots of gorgeous decorations for the home as well as crackers and gift wrap, so while you’re finding that perfect present or stocking filler, you can pick up the rest of your Christmas shopping too!

Gifts for Everyone Dot Com Gift Shop Vintage Frills

There was so much amazing stuff there, that I couldn’t capture everything. I’d definitely recommend taking a look through the Dot Com Gift Shop website to find that perfect gift for someone you love or even just to get something nice for yourself or your home.

I’d like to take a moment to welcome my wonderful new blog sponsors Dolly and Dotty to the land of pretty dresses! I only recently discovered this lovely company and it’s opened up a whole new Pandora’s box of gorgeous dresses for me to covet! I was delighted when the lovely people at Dolly and Dotty said I could have one of their dresses to review. It always takes me a while to choose when I want absolutely everything, but in the end I chose this lovely floral shirt dress named Poppy.

Dolly and Dotty Vintage Style Dress Review

What I really love about the style of dress and the print, is that it would work really well for both a 40s and 50s look. Today I’ve gone for a 50s housewife look with a petticoat and pearls. The shoes I’m wearing are an original vintage pair, which fall apart a little more every time I wear them, but I love them with this dress.

As usual I went for a size 14 and the fit was very true to size. The dress came with a matching belt, however I’ve paired it with my own belt for these pictures. The dress is made 95% cotton and 5% spandex, giving it all the softness of cotton with a little stretch for fit. The dress is hand wash only, but if you’re used to wearing real vintage hand washing will be a familiar chore anyway!

Dolly and Dotty Floral Poppy Dress Review

The dress fastens with a side zip which I always prefer as it gives a better fit and is more authentic for a vintage style dress. The dress is fully lined in a lovely contrasting green fabric. The pretty rose print is absolutely gorgeous and I like that it’s quite a small delicate print with a slightly faded feel, which made the dress look a little more like a real vintage one to me.

I’m really happy with my first dress from Dolly and Dotty and would definitely recommend them from my experience do far. I’m looking forward to trying more of their lovely dresses in the future. This particular dress and several others are available up to a size 24 so are perfect for plus size vintage fans too.

The dress is available in a selection of colours and prints, see the full selection of dresses here.

A quick Google search will turn up hundreds of ideas for DIY wedding favours, but if you’re aiming to have a vintage wedding then finding something to match your theme can be difficult. If you want something that doesn’t break the budget while looking great for your big day then here are some vintage DIY wedding favours to blow your mind:

Mason Jars

Mason Jar

Not only are mason jars bang on trend, but they can be used for a wide variety of purposes. You can put in personal messages, fill them with sweets, coffee beans, candles or anything else you can imagine. If you want to give it a really vintage feel then use some brown twine to tie off the rim as seen in the picture above.

Antique Paper

Antique Paper

Simple, easy, cost effective and incredibly personal. There are plenty of ways to give a normal sheet of A4 a vintage look; combine this with some awesome calligraphy skills and you have one of the best looking wedding favours on offer.

Vintage Photos

Vintage Photos

What’s better than a hand-written letter? How about a vintage style photograph of the happy couple? Getting these custom printed could be a bit tricky, but it will be well worth it on the day and it gives all your guests a present that they’ll truly cherish.

Brown Paper Bags

 Paper Bags

They may not be the most interesting things in the world, but you can use brown paper bags to capitalise on the vintage theme. Kraft paper gives a very organic and natural feel, allowing you to pack them full of anything you want – giving your guests a lovely gift bag to remember your special day.

Printed Film Sheets

 Printed Film Sheets

While it may not be the most vintage looking wedding favour you can offer, there is the ability to print it with whatever you want. This means that you can choose colours, patterns and designs, maximising the wow factor and then filling the bag with whatever you wish and trying it off with a ribbon.

Paper Bookmark

Printed BookmarkSarah Parrot under CC 2.0

Another very simple wedding favour that can be done by hand or simply printed out at home. A bookmark is something that many of your guests will use and it therefore has a real purpose. If you as a couple are particularly big readers then this really is a no-brainer!

Rustic Flower Box

UntitledWedding of my dreams under cc 2.0

Turn that table centrepiece into something with a bit more longevity by giving it as a wedding favour. While not everyone will be able to take the centre piece home, it works great as a present for parents and grandparents.

Vintage Keys

Vintage Keys

If you’re a dab hand at engraving, then scribing the happy couple’s names and wedding date on old keys is a great way to give people a memento of this fantastic day. Want to package this even better? Use small block bottom paper bags to make these keys a really rustic and appealing gift.

I always get a little over excited when Collectif have a sale. About twice a year they reduce everything on their website to 50% off and I go a bit mad and buy all the pretties that I’ve had my eye on. This time I came away with a grand total of four gorgeous dresses and a selection of accessories. I’m planning to do a haul post soon, but for now here is a review of one of the dresses I bought.

Collectif Flamingo Print Dress

I have a bit of a thing for tropical themed prints at the moment, they make me feel instantly cheerful so I was totally drawn to this bright atomic era inspired, flamingo festooned dress. The doll dress is a new shape for me, I’ve always been really happy with the fit of the Dolores Doll dresses and don’t usually go for thin straps, but I decided to go for something a little different and I’m glad I did. I’m not a fan of strapless bras, so I wore the dress with a bra with very thin nude coloured straps and I don’t think they notice too much.

Collectif Flamingo Doll Dress Review

I love the fit of the dress, which I bought in a size 14. The dress has a panel of shirred elastic at the back rather than fastening with a zip which I find quite handy for getting a really good fit on a curvy figure. The front of the dress features some pretty wooden buttons and a gathered section over the bust which is super flattering. There was more than enough room across the bust and there was definitely lots of extra stretch, so this would also be a great style for busty girls with smaller waists.

The quality of the dress is fantastic, I’ve never had any problems with any of my Collectif clothing before, it all washes and lasts really well. I was also impressed with the speed in which my lovely new clothes were delivered. Despite the very busy sale period my parcel was with me within 4 days, so I didn’t have to wait too long before I could try all my lovely new clothes on! With free postage on top of the already fantastic discount I was really happy.

Collectif Flamingo Doll Dress

We’ve been decorating the house all week and I’ve had no time to anything with my hair so I just popped into a pony tail and covered it with a pretty chiffon head scarf from Bow and Crossbones. I accessorised the dress with a vintage wooden box bag which Rob bought me for my birthday from an antiques shop and a selection of plastic bangles and a wooden bracelet alongside a pair of pink Swedish Hasbeens. This was the perfect outfit for a lovely walk in the park.
