My Vintage Favourites No 3 – The Orange Wiggle Dress

February 18, 2016

As promised, today I have another of my favourite true vintage dresses to show you. This one is quite a recent acquisition so I’ve only worn it a couple of times so far. I picked up this lovely bargain dress for just £25 when I visited The Clothes Show last year. It was one of two from Urban Village Vintage. I don’t wear wiggle style dresses very often, as I prefer fuller dresses which flatter my figure a bit better. But I couldn’t resist the rich orange hues in this fabulous early 60s print.

Orange Vintage Wiggle Dress
The dress is made from a gorgeous heavy cotton and I love the beautiful cut and pleats. I wish I’d had the chance to wear this in the Autumn as the colours capture every shade of the season so well. I’m really happy with the fit although my plan is to have the hem let down a little as I’d prefer it to sit slightly lower on the knee.

Orange 1960s Wiggle Dress
I would love more dresses in this shape, which I prefer to the more fitted modern reproduction wiggles. They don’t cut them quite how they used to! If you’re unsure about wearing a wiggle dress for the first time, I’d always recommend trying an original one first rather than a reproduction, stretchy fabric isn’t always best.

Enid Collins Chicken Box Bag
I wore the dress with a pair of original vintage heels, which as far as I can remember were a charity shop find. My bag is yet another vintage Enid Collins, I’m completely addicted to all the cute designs. I now have 7 of them! I usually buy them on eBay and have them shipped over from the US. Despite the postage and occasional customs charge, I still find it cheaper than buying them over here.

I love the little mirror inside and it looks like someone used it to store pencils at some point!

Just gorgeous Catherine! Such jazzy colours, and the fit is great. I am yet to find a vintage wiggle that fits well on me – broad shoulders and long body – but I do keep looking! Xx

That is a fabulous dress! I agree that older wiggles fit differently, modern ones are more body-con (perhaps it’s the stretch fabric a lot of modern ones are made from).

Love it! I have a modern Sainsbury’s Tu dress that is cut similarly and I adore it. It’s not built to last and I wish I was clever enough to take it apart and make several versions of it!
