Blogmas Day 1 – Trying to Feel Festive

December 1, 2016

This year I’ve decided to give Blogmas a go. The idea is to blog every day until Christmas. Given my previous track record with blog challenges, this may not go very well, but we’ll see. As well as my usual posts I’d like to talk about what I’ve been doing and how my plans for Christmas are going, as well as my Christmas recipes, gift guides and wish lists.

I’m also hoping this will get me a little more in the mood for Christmas. So far this year, I’m not really feeling it. I think it’s because this time of year can be a bit crazy and all about spending money and can get quite stressful. This year I’d like Christmas to be as relaxed as possible. I’d also like to make this Christmas as home-made as possible. It’s a great time of year to get your bake on and get stuck into lots of crafts and creative things. I’d also like to do lots of festive things with the kids and I’m already thinking of some fun things for us to do in the next few weeks.

vintage-life-december-2016I started my Christmas writing a while back, when I did my articles for Vintage Life magazine. In the December issue I’ve written about my favourite Christmas cocktails as well as some home made food gifts. If you’d like to take a look, you can buy a copy on the Vintage Life website. I’ve also done a stocking filler ideas list for the Bentall Centre in Kingston.

christmas-food-giftsChristmas shopping wise, I’ve not really started yet. I have a few ideas for the girls and I’ll be getting to work on their gifts soon. I hate busy shops, so I’m planning to buy all my gifts online in the next couple of weeks. I’d also like to support smaller businesses where possible, so I’m going to be looking on sites like Etsy and Not on the High Street for most of my presents.

Before Christmas both me and Rob will be celebrating our Birthdays, mine is this Saturday and I absolutely cannot wait. We’re heading to Northampton tomorrow where we’ll be spending the weekend. We’re going to a big vintage ball with all my friends from the Most Marvellous Meet Ups group. I am so excited!

So wish me luck keeping up with blogmas and watch this space for lots for Christmassy things. Now I’m off to do some baking and then I’m going to make some pretty decorations for the tree.

I can see how it would maybe be tricky getting excited for Christmas if you have birthdays to celebrate first! The last few years haven’t been Christmassy for me at all, but I’m really into it this year!

I have found it so difficult getting into the Christmas spirit this year! You know what I am like with my Christmas tunes on by end of November – I just can’t help it. This year though I just feel a bit lax! As we are getting closer I am getting more into the spirit but it has definitely taken a lot longer this year!
