To me Birmingham has one of the best vintage scenes in the country, when I visited last year I was blown away by some of the wonderful retro businesses in the city. The majority are based in the rather fabulous Custard Factory a stones throw from the city centre. Not only does the site have a great selection of vintage shops covering all eras but also a vintage themed salon.
I was delighted to hear that it is also playing host to a fantastic festival this May. Swingamajig is a one day festival dedicated to Electro Swing, Gypsy Folk and Vintage Mayhem. Where jazz and swing fuse with thundering synths and everyone parties like its 1929!? Sounds like my kind of night!
“It is unlike any other festival you know. A sea of smiling faces old and young, hands raised in the air or flinging a dancing partner around, everyone looks ravishing and yet still dances like there is not a care left in the world!”
Back for its third year Swingamajig Festival brings together the most unlikely yet wonderful people, from students to original swing fans in their 70s and beyond. You can expect the finest in live music, DJS, Burlesque, Swing Dancing Circus tricks, magic and more. There are four stages with various acts as well as plenty of fun food and curiosities.
It sounds like a really fun event and I’m planning to put on my dancing shoes and get down there myself. Hopefully getting a little vintage shopping in before the fun begins.
Bank Holiday Sunday 3rd May 2pm-6am, The Custard Factory, Digbeth
