I’ve blogged about going fruit and veg picking with the kids a couple of years ago. It’s a really fun and easy way to keep them busy in the summer holidays and a fab way of getting them to eat lots and lots of fruit and veg. Last weekend we popped to Garson’s Farm in Esher again, so a really quick visit to grab some raspberries, strawberries and a few vegetables.
We went quite late in the day, as its far too hot too do much in the day time at the moment. I absolutely cannot wait for it to cool down a bit next week! This was a great end of day activity though and it’s always fab when you find a good spot with loads of delicious fruit thats just ready to pick.
It also works out much cheaper than buying your own fruit at the supermarket. I’m sure fruit keeps getting more expensive and the packets keep getting smaller. We always pick enough to have loads to eat and to use in some baking or to make some jam.
I’d quite like to pop back every week during the holidays, as the available fruit and veg is always changing as the season progresses. I love it later in the summer when you can pick apples and even better in October when the pumpkin patch is open. I wrote about choosing a pumpkin with Lila last Halloween. It’s a lovely way to make memories and teach the kids about where food comes from and healthy eating.
I’d love to share a lot more about what we do over the summer. So look out for lots of short posts like this and reviews of places we’ve been. As well as posts about what I’ve been wearing of course! As always I love hearing suggestions of great places to go with the kids. Keep up with everything we’re doing over on my Instagram, where I’ll be posting daily Stories.
