It’s been a while since I shared my last update on Lila’s bedroom. We’ve been slowly adding new bits to her ice cream themed bedroom and having lots of fun in the process. I recently added a new addition to the shelf above her bed, with these handmade decoupage letters. We chose ice creams to go with her room, but I also did one letter in llama paper as these are her favourite animals. These are so easy to make and I think they look great next to all her other lovely ice creamy bits. I love that these could be adapted for any theme and add a lovely personal touch. I got everything I needed to make these from Hobbycraft, except the ice cream decoupage paper which I found in my local art shop.
You will need:
I started by painting the mache letters white all over, so that none of the brown would show through when I stuck the paper on and painted the letters.
Cut the decoupage papers into small pieces, trying not to cut through too many of the details on the pattern.
Start sticking the paper onto the letters using the glue. Make sure to put glue on top of the piece of paper too, so it sticks down really well.
Paint your design onto the other letters, I kind of made these up as I went along and I’m pretty happy with how well they turned out. I was inspired by my DIY ice cream plant pots that I made a while ago.
Allow everything to dry and then finish with a final layer of glue over the top. Once this is dry everything will be strong and glossy and ready to go to it’s new home.
I love how the letters look on Lila’s shelf and had lots of fun rearranging everything to fit them in. I love the mix of little treasures we’ve picked up in various places and things I’ve painted or made for Lila. I can’t wait to start my next project for her room.
