Last week my little space on the internet turned 5! So much has happened in those 5 exciting years. When I started writing my blog I had just turned 26 and had a nearly 1 year old baby and a 6 year old, I was still running my vintage business and was super busy. It was a place I could go to have a bit of a break, to talk about my love of books, history and fashion and even though I had very few readers, I absolutely loved it and still do.
Blogging has given me some absolutely amazing opportunities and introduced me to some wonderful new friends, it has allowed me to fit a bit of creativity in my busy life and there really is nothing better than settling down with a cup of tea and just writing.
The biggest highlight of the last 5 years, has to be winning a Cosmopolitan Blog Award for best use of photography in a blog. When I entered, I didn’t think I would even make it to the shortlist and to actually win the award was one of the proudest moments of my life and I’m still so grateful to all of my readers who helped me get there. Every time I see my award I feel all warm and fuzzy and want to give you all a hug!
The blog has given me the confidence to wear the clothes I love and to be so much more confident in myself. Every single lovely comment means the world to me, my readers really are awesome. In 5 years I am lucky enough to have never received any negativity, which in this day and age is such a huge blessing.
Blogging has also given me the opportunity to write for other people, including my food column in Vintage Life magazine. When I was little I always wanted to write for a magazine and seeing my work in print, never loses its thrill for me. You can see some of my other writing work here.
Of course there are times when I want to throw in the towel, when I get writers block, or feel like I’m not good enough at what I do. At times like these I remember that I started this for me and that if I need a break, then I’ll take one.
Looking to the future, I have so many ideas that I want to see come into fruition this year. I have been working behind the scenes for the last couple of years on a very exciting project and I’m hoping this will be the year it all comes together. I also have a stack of posts I need to finish, a wardrobe full of outfits I want to share and a lot of books, days out and recipes that I need to write about. So here’s to another year of doing a job that I really really love.
