Vintage Inspiration – Retro Orange and Green for Autumn

November 3, 2025

Welcome to Autumn! My favourite season for fashion, not yet so cold that you have to wrap yourself up in 100 layers to venture outside, but cool enough to add a few extra layers. The colours of the season always inspire the best outfits, from Pumpkin orange to the greens, browns and reds of the changing leaves as they begin to fall, nature really does give us the perfect colour palette to work with.

This collection has a great mix of dresses, separates, jewellery and accessories, which have been so fun to mix and play around with. I’m always attracted to interesting colours, textures and prints and some of the 60s pieces I’ve found recently really embody all that is fabulous about vintage. The 60s and 70s were very innovative when it came to new fabrics and techniques and this is one of the reasons I think they are two of the very best decades for fashion.

Separates

Every wardrobe should have a few super versatile blouses or tops. Look out for fabulous collars, bows and statements sleeves and cuffs. They are perfect for mixing and layering and can not only be worn with skirts and trousers, but under pinafore dresses, waistcoats and knits to add a little interest. You can always find fab vintage blouses on Vintage Frills Shop. I’ve paired this white blouse with a 1950s novelty print skirt and green chiffon scarf.

I love bold pattern mixes and contrasting prints. This orange and green floral blouse looks fab with the green check skirt, because the skirt picks out the green in the blouses print. Making two more simple pieces look a bit bolder and brighter for a slightly more eccentric eye-catching look.

Vintage twinsets and suits are such useful pieces to add to a collection. The pieces can be worn separately or together and it’s always great to find matching piece that are still together decades on. 1970s Autumn leaf set – SOLD

Dresses

Simple 60s shift dresses look great worn on their own, but can also be the base for building a more interesting outfit. Here I’ve added a pretty blouse underneath and a long necklace to add a bit more texture and depth to the outfit. This 60s orange and brown crimplene dress is absolutely perfect for autumn.

Jewellery

In my opinion you can never have too much gorgeous vintage jewellery in every colour possible. Jewellery is the icing on top of the cake for most outfits and having great selection of colours is a must! This collection has. great mix of classic bone china, stunning glass and enamel and fun retro plastic pieces.
