Last week Jess was away on a school trip for a few days and I decided this was the perfect time to give a her room a bit of a makeover. I’d already discussed loads of ideas with her and she’d chosen all the colours and the theme before she went away. It took us all week, but I love how the room came out.

jesss-room-weird-is-a-side-effect-of-awesome-plaqueI didn’t take any before pictures, but the room used to be pink with floral wallpaper and was much more vintage themed. I wanted the new room to be more of a reflection of Jessica, than my taste and I’m so glad I gave her the freedom to choose.

jesss-room-check-meowtWe wanted to create a restful space, where she could be relaxed but also creative. She’s 10 now, but will be going into high school next year and I wanted a theme that wouldn’t be too young for her as she gets a bit older.

jesss-room-wood-wallpaper-wallThe colour scheme we chose was grey, mint and peach. We have walls painted in each of those colours as well as a wall with beachy timber wallpaper. I absolutely love the combination of colours. We used the relaxing mint shade on the wall with her desk and the peach on the side where she keeps her toys.

jesss-room-primark-wall-plaquesJess has been collecting these cute wall plaques for a while, I have loads more which I haven’t put up yet as well. These all come from Primark and the plan is to keep filling the wall with them. I’ve hung them on coats hooks so she can change them around when ever she wants.

jesss-room-primark-home-accessoriesHer desk is also a new addition, she originally had an up cycled 1930s dressing table, but this had really started to wear out. We picked up this simple white one from Ikea and I think it works much better this the new theme.

jesss-room-desk-and-wall-plaquesJess chose the pictures above her desk, which are also from Ikea. I’ve put them in some simple black frames, which I may spray paint a different colour at some point.

jesss-room-ikea-printsIt was important that Jess could get to all her toys, so I’ve not tried to hide them away and they’re all easy for her to access and play with. The big tubs at the tops are from Tesco and the grey boxes containing her smaller toys are from Ikea.

jesss-room-grey-and-mint-primark-beddingHer new bedding is from Primark, who have so many amazing home accessories in at the moment.

jesss-room-makeoverI haven’t quite finished the room and there’s a lot I’d like to add to it. But I’m really happy with the progress so far. Watch this space for an update in a few weeks.

I am entering the Cosmo Blog Awards again this year. If you have a minute, I would really appreciate a nomination in the Lifestyle category. Thank you! You can place your nominations here.

Ways to follow Vintage Frills

Instagram – Twitter – Facebook – Pinterest – Google Plus – Youtube

Today I popped into Primark with the plan to get a few little bits to brighten up my bedroom. I’ve seen lot’s of great Primark home finds on other blogs recently and wanted to get a few bits without spending a fortune.

I managed to get some candles and a couple of pretty accessories for just £25. Here’s what I bought…

Bird and Bicycle Cushion – £5.00

This cushion is so pretty and beautifully made, I love the lace and embroidered detail and I think it looks lovely with my other cushions and mis-matched vintage pillowcases.

Rose Fairy Lights – £6.00

I already had these in pink, and use them in different places around the house. I thought the cream would be perfect to add a little detail to my Ikea bed frame. They are battery operated so I don’t have to unplug my lamp to use them which is great. I think these will made the room look extra cosy in the evenings when I’m snuggled up with a book.

Painted Heart Decoration – £2.00

I’ve seen loads of similar decorations all over the high street, but these are definitely the cheapest I’ve seen. I’m not completely sure where I’m going to hang these, but I’m hoping to get a vintage shelf with hooks that I might hand these from.

Tripple Wick Candles in a Tin – £3.50 each

I had planned on buying these for a while, having read some great reviews of them. The tins are so pretty and they smell amazing. I got two scents Fresh Citrus and Ginger – because I love both citrus and ginger scents and this one is gorgeous. I also got Vanilla and Coconut, which aren’t scents that usually appeal to me, but I actually really like this one.

Large Wicker Heart £1.50

This is another very pretty accessory, that was an absolutely fantastic price and I think it will look great alongside the white one.

Scented Candles £2.00 each

You can never have too many candles and these two look really pretty and smell great.

Little Oscar kept me company while I took my photos.

What do you think of my choices? Have you ever bought any home bits from Primark? What did you think?

All the spring cleaning I’ve done over the past couple of weeks has left me with a bit of a blank canvas in my bedroom. It’s the one room in our house that doesn’t really feel finished, and now everything has a home and it’s all tidy and organised I feel like giving it a little TLC.

I love using my bedroom not only as a place to sleep but also somewhere to relax, read a book, write a blog post and get ready every day. At the moment it’s painted pink and blue and I love the idea of adding a few other colours to give it a bright spring feel.

I am absolutely in love with Asda’s pin-up bedding so I used this to get a little colour inspiration and came up with a little colourful wish list. I like the idea of mixing bright colours, with a tiny hint of vintage and lot’s of different textures to create a mismatched but perfectly coordinated space.

What do you think of my choices? Do you have any home decorating plans this spring?

I have a sudden urge to decorate my bedroom. We moved house earlier this year and although it was hard to leave my old house which I’d spent years making perfect, it was nice to move somewhere bigger and have a blank canvas to work on. After 10 months here I’ve had enough of the blank canvas and I’m more than ready to finish the place and add my own personal touch.

The first place to start would have to be my bedroom, it’s the only room in the house where I’ve done absolutely nothing. The walls are cream the carpet is cream and the curtains are unfinished. I had lot’s of ideas for this room at first I was thinking pale grey and dusky pink, then I was thinking of having toille de jouy wallpaper, but ow I’ve decided to succumb completely to my rose obsession and I’m going to paint the room pale blue and pink and have rose print accessories everywhere. It’s going to be very girly!

The bedroom has come a long way since we bought the house, here’s a picture from early in the renovation…

Here it is after being stripped…

Here it is with the plaster re-done…

With the first lick of paint…

After carpeting and painting the room we’ve not really done anything so now is definitely the time for a bedroom makeover! Never one to have an idea and not act on it I went to buy paint last night and my husband is already painting before work so watch this space…
