It’s that time of year where I start to get really sick of the cold grey drizzly days here in London and it starts to feel like it will never be Spring again! But in reality it’s not that long before the world will spring back to life and fill with colour again. Spotting the snow drops popping up, is the first sign that winter will soon come to a close. Despite the chilly days to come I’ve been planning some gorgeous vintage collections for Spring, but in the meantime we can definitely think about fantastic transitional pieces to take you from one season to the next.
I’ve recently shared quite a few lovely Laura Ashley pieces from the shop and today I wanted to focus on needlecord. One of my favourite versatile fabrics for Laura Ashley and vintage in general. It’s a great material for keeping you that little bit warmer and lends itself well to darker autumn and winter prints and colours. It’s a great fabric for this time of year.
A close up of a beautiful late 1960s Laura Ashley dress, made from cotton needlecord.
Needlecord is a soft yet durable textile characterised by its fine, closely spaced ridges. It is usually made from cotton or a cotton blend, it has a velvety texture. It is lightweight compared to traditional corduroy. It is perfect for everyday dresses, as it is hardwearing and a little warmer than conventional cotton fabrics. It’s quite a common material to find in Laura Ashley dresses, especially in Autumn and Winter collections.
I have several lovely needlecord Laura Ashley dresses available at the moment, from several different eras and in a few different styles.
This beautiful navy blue floral needlecord Laura Ashley dress can be worn with or without it’s matching tie belt. I love the sleeves and the square neckline, which make this simple dress a little bit more special. Size 10
This beautiful purple toned needlecord Laura Ashley dress has the most beautiful floral print, I love how the cream leaves and white accents give the print so much depth. SOLD
Laura Ashley didn’t just make dresses out of needlecord. They also produced their fabulous jumpsuits in the fabric too. This purple floral needlecord jumpsuit is just gorgeous! I love the roomy design of Laura jumpsuits as well as their extra big pockets. Size Small.
This adorable Laura Ashley needlecord dress with lace Peter Pan collar, is absolutely adorable. Perfect for a cosy cottagecore look. Size 8-10
Another classic dress, this Laura Ashley blue and red striped needlecord dress, also has the beautiful square neckline and matching tie belt. I love the simple contrasting stripe running through this one. SOLD

One of the best dresses I’ve ever been lucky enough to have! This very early Laura Ashley dress dates from the late 1960s. I absolutely adore the deep V neck and the cuff details at the bottom of the sleeves are simply incredible! COMING SOON.
This amazing early Laura Ashley dress is more of a true corduroy than a needlecord, but I had to include her anyway! With her heavy fading she’s seen better days. But I still think she’s really special. COMING SOON.
These high necked dresses with pie crust collar are always really popular and I absolutely love this shade of green. Such a Laura Ashley classic from the early 80s. SOLD.
This classic green needlecord striped Laura Ashley dress, is the same as the blue one above. I absolutely love the very full sleeves on this design. The dress also comes with it’s matching tie belt. Size 10.
