I’ve always been a big fan of gingham. It’s so pretty and classic. I’ve featured some of my red gingham dresses on here before – My sainsburys one, my original vintage horrockses one and my Collectif one. But I’ve never owned a green gingham dress before. When Dolly and Dotty invited me to try another of their dresses, the Janie seemed like a great choice. This pretty shirt dress, has a lovely classic shape that would work well for both 40s and 50s looks.

The Perfect Green Gingham Dress?

Dolly and Dotty Janie Vintage Style Green Gingham Dress ReviewI wore mine for a windy walk around the Hampton Court gardens with Rob. It was a refreshingly warm but windy early autumn day. The dress is perfect for both summer and autumn. It looks great on it’s own, but it could also be layered up with a chunky knit on a colder day.

Material and Fit:

Dolly and Dotty Janie Vintage Style Green Gingham Dress ReviewThe dress is made from 95% and 5% elastane. this gives it that authentic soft cotton feel, with a little extra stretch to help with fit. The material on the dress is really lovely. It’s heavy enough to hang well, but is also very soft and comfortable to wear. I love the V neckline. The little gathers where the sleeve meets the shoulder give the dress a lovely 40s feel. The dress also has fabric covered buttons, which is a detail I always appreciate. The large gingham works well and stops the dress looking like school uniform.

I went for my usual size 14 and the fit is pretty good. Shirt dresses can be a bit tricky as I’m quite busty. This one didn’t gape at all and sat really well across my chest, while still fitting at the waist. I’d say this one is pretty true to size. The length is also just right. It sits at the knees on me and I’m 5’6″.

How I Wore Mine:

Dolly and Dotty Janie Vintage Style Green Gingham Dress ReviewThis dress would be really easy to dress up and accessorise, as I’ve mentioned above it would look great with a knitted cardigan. I wore mine with a luxuriate brooch from Etsy, a vintage belt from Beyond Retro and my beloved Clarks Orla Kiely Abigail shoes. I’ve worn this belt with just about everything recently. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see that I’ve put this with a lot of dresses! You just can’t go wrong with a gold belt, it finishes a simple outfit perfectly. Dolly and Dotty dresses do come with matching belts, but I usually add a true vintage one, for my own look.

The dress is currently available in the sale on the Dolly and Dotty website at just £19.99. There aren’t many sizes left in the print. The Janie dress also comes in other prints so it’s well worth a look.

What do you think? Is this the perfect green gingham dress? I absolutely love it and would like to pick up another colour.

It may be absolutely freezing outside, but in my head its time to start planning outfits for Spring. I have acquired a few new dresses in anticipation of a warmer spell and one of those is the gorgeous May dress from Dolly and Dotty.

Dolly and Dotty Blue Floral Dress Review The dress is made from a lovely light cotton and has a pretty gathered bust and waist and a full skirt. I really like the wrap style at the front. The floral print is both classic and pretty and I think this would be perfect for a Spring vintage look.

May Swing Dress in Blue from Dolly and DottyI got the dress in my usual size 14 and I found it came up a little bit small at the waist. It fastened fine, but felt a little tight. So it might be worth sizing up in this one if you plan to eat a big lunch (which I always do).

Dolly and Dotty May Swing Dress ReviewThe dress is fully lined, which I always really like, especially when I’m wearing a dress with tights. I was very happy with the quality and as a bonus, the dress comes with two matching belts, which I decided not to wear with the dress as I quite like keeping it simple.

Dolly and Dotty OOTDAt £34.99 the dress is a great price and is perfect for creating a classic 50s style look. The dress also comes in a huge range of prints and colours and I would love to pick up a darker coloured one too.

I wore the dress with an original 50s necklace, black tights and Hotter shoes.

Check out the full range of dresses on the Dolly and Dotty website.

*Thank you to Dolly and Dotty for sending me this dress for the purposes of review. All opinions as always are my own.

I love fairy tales, in our modern world they are a little piece of nostalgia that links us to childhoods gone by. Whether it be a princess falling in love or just defeating the big bad wolf they are something that we seem to never forget. For me a fairy tale can also be finding that perfect dress, something you feel amazing in. Sometimes an outfit is like a match made in heaven or a dream come true. Todays outfit just reminded me of little red riding hood, especially since as soon as I put it on my kids kept pointing out the resemblance.

Dolly and Dotty Annie Floral Retro Swing Dress ReviewThe dress and cape both came from Dolly and Dotty, who make cute feminine vintage style clothes. They contacted me recently about some of their new prints and styles and offered me something to review. I absolutely love capes and I knew I absolutely had to own this pretty red one. Choosing a dress to match was easy. The Annie floral swing dress, is a lovely classic Hepburn-esque style and the black background with striking red, pink and blue blooms looks lovely set against the deep red cape.

In true Red Riding Hood style I found myself in the woods, but rather than meeting the Big Bad Wolf I just decided to take some outfit snaps to share this lovely ensemble with you. I wore my hair in a poodle style which I have finally mastered, accessorised with a few small hair flowers from H&M.

Dolly and Dotty Sabrina Cape ReviewThe dress is a full circle and I wore it with a net petticoat to show off the lovely volume. I really like the cut of the skirt which features box pleats and the simple cut of the bodice is really flattering. The dress came with a matching belt, although I would also wear it with a plain black or red belt on other occasions to switch it up a bit.

I went for a size 14 as usual and found the dress to come up true to size. I’ve tried a few dresses from Dolly and Dotty and have found they all fit similarly. The dress is available in sizes 6 to 24 and the simple style makes it a perfect option for all sizes. Although the cape isn’t fitted, it also comes in a range of sizes from a 6 to a 24.

Dolly and Dotty Cape and Dress ReviewThe dress is 95% cotton and 5% spandex, giving a slight stretch. It is a nice heavy fabric, which gives it a really good drape. I always try to avoid flimsier reproduction items as I don’t find they hang very well, so I was really pleased with the finish of this one. The cape is the same blend, but with a completely different finish. It has a much thicker weave and feels very soft, almost like a fine wool. The cape is also fully lined which makes it a nice warmer layer for Spring and Summer evenings.

Dolly and Dotty Red CapeThe over-all quality is very good in both garments and at £24.99 for the cape and £29.99 for the dress, they are great if you are shopping on a budget.

I think the whole outfit would work really well for an event or party, or just for a very glamorous day time look. I know I will be getting lots of wear out of both garments and I’m looking forward to trying the cape with some of the true vintage dresses from my wardrobe too.

A couple of months ago I reviewed a gorgeous dress from Dolly and Dotty. The Poppy dress was absolutely perfect for the summer and todays dress is a nice addition to a winter wardrobe. The Sally polka dot dress is a really cute vintage style dress which I chose in a lovely teal shade to carry me through the colder months.

The dress is made from a stretchy 95% cotton and 5% spandex fabric which gives it a lovely fit. It has a full panelled skirt with a nipped in wait and gathered under bust making it perfect is you have curves. I love the cute nautical style collar. The dress has a tie at the back incase you need to bring in the waist and fastens with a side zip.

Dolly and Dotty Dress Review

The dress is really nice quality, but requires hand washing. Personally I’d probably risk putting it in the machine, but as I hand wash all of my original vintage clothes I don’t mind too much.

I got mine in a size 14 as usual and the fit is perfect on me, so I’d say it definitely come sup true to size and I appreciated a little extra room in the bust.

Hotter Michelle Heels

I wore mine with my new shoes from Hotter which I absolutely love (I’m going to do a proper review of these soon).  Blue and teal are such perfect colours for autumn, as a nice break from maroon, mustard and brown.

The dress costs £34.99 and comes in a huge range of colours, in both polka dot and plain styles. I’m definitely tempted to pick this up in another colour as I’m so happy with the fit.
