Last year I discovered Joanie Clothing for the first time. Since then I have picked up a few of their lovely dresses. When they offered to send me another one to try I obviously jumped at the chance. I’d had my eye on this lovely striped shirt dress for ages, so had to give it a try. I am always drawn to bright colours and I love all the clashing, contrasting shades in this one.

One of my favourite things about this dress is the arm length. If like me, you sometimes like to keep your arms hidden, then this is a great choice. I was also impressed that the arms weren’t too tight either, so the dress is really comfortable to move around in.

In general the fit and style of the dress is great, I had to add a safety pin at the bust, which I do with most shirt dresses. I’m quite busty so to get a great fit everywhere else the bust can gape a little. Having said that the dress didn’t feel at all tight across my chest, so this wasn’t a big problem for me at all.

Another thing I liked about the dress, was that the body isn’t too short and the dress’s waist sits very well on me. I love the belt that comes with it too. Its quite a strong one and should last well.

The dress is made from a light soft polyester and the skirt is lined. It’s a very comfortable dress to wear in warmer weather and I found the dress quite cool and breathable.

I went for my usual size 14, which was absolutely fine on me. They do run ever so slightly on the small side, so if you’re unsure make sure you take a look at the size guide first.

I’ve worn my dress with my favourite yellow shoes from Miss L Fire, an H&M hair flower and some vintage Avon Colour Go Round bangles from the 70s.

I’ve fallen in love with so many dresses from the Joanie website, these three are next on my wishlist. They would all be perfect for summer holidays and sunny weekends.

It’s been a while since I bought anything from Lindy Bop, mostly because my wardrobe is pretty full at the moment and I’ve been very good at resisting temptation. However their recent collection of fun novelty prints has definitely caught my attention. Back in December when my brother asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I knew exactly what I wanted and I sent him in the direction of the Alaska Print Gilda dress.

The Gilda dress is a lovely vintage style shirt dress, made from a thick slightly stretchy cotton. It comes in a lovely selection of novelty border prints. Linda Bop has gone a bit crazy for novelty prints recently. But I really like most of them and its a great change from the polka dots and cherries that seemed to be on everything a couple of years ago.

The dress is really lovely quality for the price and I love that as well as having buttons at the front, it also has a concealed side zip, which gives the dress a lovely fit. My only complaint would be that on me the dress is a little short in the body, I could do with the waist starting a little lower, but I don’t think it detracts from its overall loveliness.

The sizing on this dress is pretty spot on, I’m quite a standard size 14 and the dress works really well on me. I love that there is enough room in the bust, that it sits perfectly on me with no gaping. The dress is available up to a size 26.

I’ve worn it here with my vintage lucite necklace and my new Hotter Donna shoes, which are now available in lots of lovely spring colours. I’ll be blogging more about them soon.

Since this is quite a wintery print, the dress isn’t currently available in this option. The Alaska print is still available in a skirt and there are lots of lovely new prints in the Gilda dress. I popped some pictures of the current offering below, I absolutely love the Spring colours on the bicycle print dress.

I’ve got my eye on the San Francisco print at the moment, but I really love all of them. Which design is your favourite?

As I have mentioned many times on here, Love ur Look are one of my very favourite reproduction vintage brands. One of the things I love most about them, is that they’re not making clothes like any other brand on the vintage scene. Their dresses are made ethically in India using salvaged and up-cycled fabrics and everything is absolutely lovely quality. One of the things that sets them apart from some other brands is all the lovely design details, everything bit of finishing is gorgeous and I’m a big fan of their detailed collars, oversized pockets and beautiful buttons.

Love ur Look 50s Style DressMy latest dress from Love ur Look, is a classic 50s style shirt dress. I am completely in love with the pretty grey and coral print, which really does look like an authentic 1950s fabric. I already have a similar dress in a black floral from Love ur Look which I wear all the time, so I couldn’t wait to wear this lighter coloured one in the summer.

Love Ur Look 1950s Shirt Dress ReviewThe dress is made from a lovely soft cotton and fastens with black plastic buttons. It comes with a matching tie belt, which I have worn tied at the back for these photos, but it could also be used to make a bow at the front. The dress also has handy pockets at the side – an absolute must for me. The dress is also fully lined in white cotton has a really full gathered skirt, which is perfect for a mid-century look.

Love ur Look Dress and Vintage Bakelite BanglesI wore the dress with a simple stack of vintage bakelite and bamboo bangles and an Enid Collins bag with a pretty butterfly design. I also wore my trusty pink Donna shoes from Hotter, which I wear with almost all my vintage outfits, as they’re just so comfortable.

Love ur Look 1950s Check Shirt DressFit-wise I went for a size large, which works out about the same as my usual size 14. It is ever so slightly tight across the bust on me, which I find with most shirt dresses, but as it’s a nice strong fabric I think I can get away with it.

At £48, I think the dress is excellent value for money and would be perfect for someone looking for a dress for vintage events, that isn’t from one of the bigger repro brands.

This dress is available here. See the full range on the Love ur Look website.

This dress was kindly gifted to me by Love ur Look, although I am also a paying customer. All opinions are my own.

I’d like to take a moment to welcome my wonderful new blog sponsors Dolly and Dotty to the land of pretty dresses! I only recently discovered this lovely company and it’s opened up a whole new Pandora’s box of gorgeous dresses for me to covet! I was delighted when the lovely people at Dolly and Dotty said I could have one of their dresses to review. It always takes me a while to choose when I want absolutely everything, but in the end I chose this lovely floral shirt dress named Poppy.

Dolly and Dotty Vintage Style Dress Review

What I really love about the style of dress and the print, is that it would work really well for both a 40s and 50s look. Today I’ve gone for a 50s housewife look with a petticoat and pearls. The shoes I’m wearing are an original vintage pair, which fall apart a little more every time I wear them, but I love them with this dress.

As usual I went for a size 14 and the fit was very true to size. The dress came with a matching belt, however I’ve paired it with my own belt for these pictures. The dress is made 95% cotton and 5% spandex, giving it all the softness of cotton with a little stretch for fit. The dress is hand wash only, but if you’re used to wearing real vintage hand washing will be a familiar chore anyway!

Dolly and Dotty Floral Poppy Dress Review

The dress fastens with a side zip which I always prefer as it gives a better fit and is more authentic for a vintage style dress. The dress is fully lined in a lovely contrasting green fabric. The pretty rose print is absolutely gorgeous and I like that it’s quite a small delicate print with a slightly faded feel, which made the dress look a little more like a real vintage one to me.

I’m really happy with my first dress from Dolly and Dotty and would definitely recommend them from my experience do far. I’m looking forward to trying more of their lovely dresses in the future. This particular dress and several others are available up to a size 24 so are perfect for plus size vintage fans too.

The dress is available in a selection of colours and prints, see the full selection of dresses here.

Today I’m sharing another dress which I absolutely love. These pictures were taken ages ago, and I had decided I didn’t like them so wasn’t going to use them. But in keeping with my new attitude on not worrying about being perfect I thought I’d share them anyway.

I was on my way out for a lovely dinner with friends and got ready in about 5 minutes. I love this dress from Lindy Bop because the fit is really good. It’s also the perfect shade of navy and goes with just about anything.

Lindy Dress 2

I got the dress last year and it’s a nice wardrobe staple, and I always end up wearing it when I’ve been trying to find something nice to wear and get stuck. It’s my go-to dress for every occasion. It’s also a great day to night piece being casual enough to wear shopping or on the school run but also smart enough for a few drinks or a meal with friends.

Lindy Dress 3

I had just had my hair coloured, it looks so red! I love it when it looks like this, but my hair grows ridiculously quickly and it doesn’t stay like this for long. I have roots after about a week! Maybe dying it red wasn’t such a good idea, especially as I had spent the last 2 years growing out all my colour and it was all natural. I’m thinking of going darker again soon.

Lindy Dress 4Sadly I don’t think they sell this dress anymore, as I’d also wanted to get the red version. They do however have hundreds of other gorgeous vintage style dresses and they are really affordable too. Check out their website here.
