It's Monday, What are you Reading copy

It’s Monday What are you Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It’s a chance to share what you’ve been reading this week. You’ll find lot’s of vintage book inspiration here on Vintage Frills.

This week I’ve been making progress on two books which I’ve been reading for a little while. The Island by Victoria Hislop is set in Crete during the second world war and the years surrounding it.

A Glass of Blessings is a 1950s book written by Barbara Pym.

This week The Vintage Book Group is reading The Vintage Teacup Club by Vanessa Greene who I will also be interviewing this week. We are also planning a giveaway featuring this book later next week.

I don’t have any other reading planned this week as I still need to catch up on reviews and finish these ones.

Join The Vintage Book Group here. It’s not just for vintage lovers but for anyone who enjoys a good book!

Vintage Book Group copy

Recently I’ve combined my love of vintage with my love of books. So many great books have been recommended to me which have vintage themes and I keep discovering more. Me and Fay from the wonderful book blog Blog a Book Etc have decided to join forces to form The Vintage Book Group. The group is based on Goodreads so you don’t need to be a blogger to take part.

How it works…

Every two weeks Fay and I will recommend a vintage themed book for the group to read. We are allowing two weeks to get the book read and then we will share our thoughts on the books on the discussions on the Goodreads page.

The group is just for fun and members don’t have to read every book on the list, although they are all fabulous!

Anyone can join! It’s not just for bloggy people all you have to do is sign up to Goodreads and join the group. The books are all readily available in paper form, kindle, and some on audio.

The books aren’t just for vintage girls! We have chosen books that appeal to a wide female audience but just happen to include some lovely vintage fashion 🙂

We love recommendations so please let us know if there’s something you’d like the group to read.

How to join…

You can join here. If you already have Goodreads joining is simple, if not you can sign up for Goodreads before joining.

If you are a blogger is would be much appreciated if you could spread the world by doing a little post on your blog to announce the book group and link up in the comments below and on Fay’s blog. Please feel free to copy the logo at the top of the page.

The first few books on the list are…

Miracle on Regent Street by Ali Harris (reading from Jan 20th – 2nd Feb)

The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean (reading from 3rd feb – 16th Feb)

The Vintage Teacup Club by Vanessa Greene (reading from 17th Feb – 2nd march)

It’s Monday What are you Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It’s a chance to share the books you’ve read in the last week and plan your reading week ahead.

This week I finished reading The Vintage Teacup Club and The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean Both books had a fabulous vintage theme and I really enjoyed them. they definitely put me in a vintage mood.

I have now started reading The First Last Kiss by Ali Harris. I loved her first book Miracle on Regent Street and so far I’m really enjoying this one. I got this as a review copy and it’s not available for a couple of weeks but you can pre-order it from Amazon here.

I’ve added a few things to my to be read list this week. I ordered my daughter some new books from The Book People for Christmas and I also got myself a collection of books by 1950s author Barbara Pym so as soon as I’ve cleared the list a little I’m going to work my way through these.

Barbara PymI got all 5 books for £6.99 here

On the subject of vintage themed books a friend from another blog and I are planning on doing a vintage book challenge for 2013. The idea is to read lot’s of lovely novels which centre around vintage clothes or were written mid-century. I’m going to set up a Goodreads group in the new year. If anyone would like to join in please comment below as I’d love to know if it’s a good idea!

I didn’t get any reviews written last week with all the craziness of christmas but I’m hoping to get a couple done this week.

I hope everyone has a great week and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It's Monday, What are you Reading copy

This weekly meme is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. Every Monday we share the highlights of our reading week, and our plans for next week.

This week I managed to finish The Casual Vacancy by J K Rowling. This book has had very mixed reviews, I personally thought it was an accomplished piece of writing and found it very thought-provoking. I have so much to say about this one and I’m really hoping to get down to writing a review this week.

The Casual Vacancy

I also finished With Love at Christmas by Carole Matthews, this is a lovely christmas read and I would highly recommend it. I will try to get this one reviewed this week too.

I have started reading The Vintage Teacup Club by Vanessa Greene, I’m only a few chapters in, but so far so good. This book really appeals to me. I’m planning on doing a little feature or two on books with vintage themes, and this is just perfect for vintage lovers and thrifters alike.

The Vintage Tea Cup Club

I have just got the audio book of One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern, looking forward to having a listen to this one over the next week.

The to read list hasn’t been added to but is still huge, so I won’t be adding to it until after christmas, these are the ones I really want to get read in the next couple of weeks.

Laura’s Handmade Life by Amanda Addison – The First Last Kiss by Ali Harris – From Notting Hill to New York… Actually – Never Can Say Goodbye by Christina Jones

I haven’t written any reviews this week as I’ve been super busy so next week should be pretty review heavy as I have loads of catching up to do.

In other news my little girl played Mary in her school nativity this week and was absolutely perfect, I was such a proud mum. She had a busy week having been on a quick holiday to Lapland with her Grandparents last week as well. We’re all feeling really festive here!
