Vintage Shopping in Balham and OOTD

December 10, 2013

This weekend I popped down to Balham Bowls Club for their Craft and Vintage fair. I’ve been to a few vintage fairs there before and always picked up a few little treasures. I was on a tight budget this time. Tight budget meaning I wasn’t supposed to buy anything, just have a look round and a cup of tea!

There were fewer stalls than last time I went and with the craft stalls taking up a fair proportion of the sellers there wasn’t a huge amount of vintage on offer, however I did spot a few really nice pieces and had I been able to spend I would have come away with a faux fur coat, a belt and a couple of dresses.

In the end I spent a whole £9 on a handbag and two pinnies to add to my growing collection. All three were from Lace Dahlia Vintage. The bag isn’t in great condition but for £5 I thought I could probably clean it up and repair it. I’m really looking forward to using it as I have loads of dresses it will go with.

One of my favourite stalls was Pearly Queen London, who had some beautiful floral combs and crowns which would look amazing with vintage hairstyles. I will definitely be having a look at the website and maybe getting something in the new year.

The total highlight of the fair was the massive selection of cakes on offer, they also had some delicious looking mulled wine, but as I was driving I stuck to the tea! While we enjoyed our cake (I had a mince pie) we watched the screen they had set up, which was showing classic christmas films. White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life were showing while we were there. Nothing makes me feel more festive than a mince pie and a christmas film!

What I Wore…

I wore a dress that has been in my wardrobe since the summer. I bought it on Ebay and was a little disappointed as it wasn’t quite as described. However having tried it on again a few weeks ago I realised that I actually really like the dress, so it got it’s first wear yesterday. It’s an early 1960s cotton dress, and the pattern is really pretty. This will definitely get a lot more wear now that I’ve fallen in love with it!

Dress – Ebay

Cardigan – Sainsburys

Bag and Shoes – Primark

It’s good that you have fallen in love with the dress, it looks very nice on you. The outfit overall is well pulled together. I enjoy your OOTD.

Thanks for the mention and here’s to your ever-growing pinny collection! Absolutely love when vintage pieces go to great new homes.

Also glad to hear we weren’t the only ones in love with the cakes! We just had to have one (or three)….

Way to rock the willpower, dear lady! I’ve told myself that I wasn’t going to spend at various events like Christmas craft fairs and antique shows many times over the years, but usually cave and drop at least a few dollars, too. I figure anything under $10 (or 10 pounds) really is still doing very good in the face of how much could be dropped in a heartbeat at such sales.
