Sofia Dourvari at Birmingham Fashion Week

March 3, 2014

Over the weekend I visited Birmingham and attended their Fashion Week. One of the designers that really stood out to me was the fabulous Sofia Douvari a Greek designer based in the UK.

Sofia moved to England in 2000, and studied fashion design at Salford University followed by a postgraduate diploma in textile technology. She went on to win Best Designer at an international student festival for best creative designs.

Her designs are inspired by her Mediterranean roots, and focus heavily on femininity. Her designs are very classic and suitable for women of any age and are perfect for occasion wear. The cuts of her clothes are extremely flattering and accentuate the curves of the female form.

Her collection which was also recently shown at London fashion week, was a beautiful mixture of textures and feminine colours. My favourite pieces were the beautiful metallic dresses and the show stopping wedding dress.

Myself and 3 other bloggers were invited to interview her after her show and we decided to film the interview. I had been filming all night and ran out of battery half way though so swapped cameras, but Sofia was absolutely lovely and very interesting and spent loads of time talking us through the collection. The sound isn’t great at first but gets better so keep watching! It was a very noisy venue!

The other bloggers featured in the video are Georgina of Caramel Latte Kiss, Rosie of Peekaboo Vintage Blog and Fay of Blog a Book Etc and I’m the one holding the camera panicking about sound and battery!

I loved them all, but for me the wedding dress was the stand out piece.
There were also some gorgeous metallic skater dresses, which were amazing, but I didn’t get a good picture of 🙁

Very elegant pieces. I like that though clearly designer, most still seem like something one could in theory sport in the right real world setting.
