Things to do this Weekend

May 8, 2015

Just a quick post from me this morning, I wanted to mention two great events that are happening in London this weekend. If you’re in or around the city and stuck for something to do this Sunday, these great events might be right up your street.

East London Vintage Fair

First up is a brand new vintage fair. The East London Vintage Fair is set to be a good one. This Sunday you can find 40 stalls selling vintage from the 1920s to 90s at Clapton’s Round Chapel. The fair will be a monthly event and sellers include regulars from Portobello Market and some of Southern England’s finest vintage dealers. The lovely Fleur De Guerre will also be selling a huge amount of vintage and repro from her own collection.

The stunning location will be transformed into an inspirational shopping space for attendees to browse through vintage ladies, mens and kids clothing, 20th century homewares, antiques, curiosities, up-cycled goods, apothecary, flowers, jewellery, street food and a vintage tea room.

Urban Village Fete

If you’re looking for a great day out with the family another new event coming to London this weekend is The Urban Village Fete, a contemporary twist on the tradition village fete. The event is organised by Wayne Hemingway who has organised some of my very favourite vintage themed events in the past.

The fete will be the first free public event staged in Peninsula Garden, a new public garden for London. There’ll be something there for all the family including; pop-up fashion stalls, a best of British design marketplace, street food and craft sellers as well as swing classes, workshops for children, DJ sets and a pooch parade. And of course there will be vintage clothing and unicycled goods for sale.

Today also marks the 70th anniversary of VE Day. The Royal British Legion are running a social media campaign. They are using a platform called Thunderclap to flood Twitter and Facebook with a call to action for everyone up and down the country to share a #KissforVEDay.

What is Thunderclap? It is a new platform that allows people to pledge a tweet or Facebook status that is concentrated and unleashed at the same time – rather like an online flash mob in many ways!

It takes 5 seconds to join and pledge your support. All you need to do is visit thndr.it/1bGrdle  and click “Support with Twitter” or “Support with Facebook” (or both!)

They really hope you will want to support this social campaign to raise awareness of such a significant historical event and help spread the celebratory nature of #KissforVEDay.

If you make it to any of the events, I hope you enjoy them. I’d also love to hear what people are doing to celebrate VE Day. Let me know if you’re up to anything exciting. xxx
