What You’re Wearing

June 7, 2015

I get inspiration for my vintage themed outfits from all sorts of places, magazines, books and other blogs to name a few. But nothing beats seeing real women rocking their favourite frocks and feeling fabulous. Wearing pretty vintage style outfits always makes me feel fabulous. Even when I’m missing my pre baby figure and not feeling very confident, wearing something lovely always gives me a little boost.

I asked some of my friends from my favourite Facebook group to send me pictures of them wearing their favourite vintage themed outfits and asked them why they love vintage style. I was so pleased with the response, what I wanted was women of all different ages shapes and sizes, who feel fabulous in what they’re wearing and that’s what I got. It’s lovely to have a mix of professional photographs and simple selfies what all of you have in common is that you look amazing. I hope you like all the outfits and I’m really hoping to make this a regular feature on the blog!

I’m starting out with a picture of me from our recent trip to the Isle of Wight. I wore this outfit for a day out with my family and it wasn’t one I was going to share with you. I can’t believe I plucked up the courage to wear a cropped top! It is completely out of my comfort zone and just showing that couple of inches was a real test of my confidence. I’m wearing a skirt from Primark with a Beyond Retro cropped top and a Banned Clothing cardigan.

What your wearing Hayley

Hayley had this wonderful photoshoot for her hen night and looks absolutely fabulous! Her dress from Vivien of Holloway looks absolutely perfect on her and I love her hair and make-up. Check out Hayley’s make-up business, she’s planning on doing lots of vintage make-up looks soon.

What you're wearing MarieMarie looks really lovely in both her photos, her Lindy Bop wiggle dress is so flattering and you can’t beat a pretty circle skirt and paired with a neck scarf and Bardot top this look is just lovely, I definitely want to recreate this fun look myself so I’m going to stock up on some similar tops to wear with my favourite skirts this summer.

What your wearing Pauline

Pauline is an up cycling genius, she made the gorgeous dress she’s wearing the picture from a vintage table cloth, I think she looks absolutely lovely in it too, her make-do-and-mend attitude to her wardrobe is inspiring. Pauline loves vintage style but finds it hard to find pieces in her size, so makes her own dresses, which I think is fantastic. I can’t wait to see more of her home made pieces. Also how amazing is that lucite handbag?

Your Outfits Leanne

I love the touches of red in Leanne’s vintage style outfit. Her red cardigan is from Next, The dress is Ruby Rox, her belt was a car boot find and the shoes are from Debenhams Good for the Sole collection. Every piece of her outfit is second hand and the dress was a gift from her mother in law and her other half altered it to fit her so the dress always brings back happy memories. Leanne loves vintage style because it makes her feel feminine and finds it very comfortable. Leanne says “My love of vintage clothing and looks stems from my love for Madonna and then the film A league of their own I absolutely loved the fashions it is a recent move of mine from jeans and t-shirts to daily vintage inspired outfits”.

Katrina aka Kitty Spitfire looks so glamorous in this fabulously bright outfit. The dress is one of her favourites and comes from British Retro, who have lot’s of absolutely amazing dresses. Katrina loves styles from the 1940s and 50s because they are both feminine and elegant. Her style icons are Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth to name just a few! Katrina was also Vintage Life Magazine’s Miss June this month, which is absolutely fantastic!

Lastly we have the lovely Sofia, who is looking beautiful in her gorgeous vintage accessories.  Her sunglasses are original 1930s from a car boot sale, her beret is vintage Kangol from a charity shop, her 1930s coat is from Etsy and her Shearling collar is from her own vintage shop. Sofia says “running a vintage clothes and textiles shop in sunny Rye. It feeds my love of history, magpie tendencies and being surrounded by vintage glamour all day. I love vintage as it allows me to express my own style, I’m researching and learning new facts every day, plus I get to be the guardian of some beautiful and precious things, which hopefully future generations will be able to appreciate too.” I’m a little jealous I’d love my own shop! If you find yourself in Rye you can visit her shop at 4 Cinque Ports Street, Rye, East Sussex, TH31 4AW.

I hope you agree that all these ladies look wonderful. I love the mix of true vintage and reproduction as well as a little high street. I’m all for mixing it up and most of all having fun and feeling great in what you’re wearing. I just want to say thanks to everyone who sent their pics in for me. I’m hoping to make this a regular feature so please send me your pictures and I’ll include them next time.

Me too! I’ve been looking through all my vintage tablecloths and wondering if they’d make good dresses. She’s totally inspired me. xxx

Phenomenal idea for a post, dear Catherine! I loved reading everyone’s answers and my eyes lit up the moment I saw Pauline’s pretty picture, because she’s a dear customer of mine and actually purchased that green vintage hat she’s wearing in that photo from my shop. Seeing it “in action” so to speak is too cool for words! 🙂

*PS* I love your Primark novelty print skirt. What a great example of finding vintage appropriate garb from a contemporary shop.
