A Perfect 50s Rose Print Dress OOTD

May 23, 2016

As we have probably already established during my four years of blogging, I have a bit of a weakness for 50s dresses and floral prints. When you put the two together you have my perfect dress! One of my favourite styles of the 50s would have to be the shirt waist dress, they are so classic and flattering and casual enough for everyday wear.

1950s Blue Shirtwaister OOTDA few weeks ago I picked up this lovely blue rose print dress from Radio Days, one of my favourite vintage shops in London. Sadly they are soon to be closing after over 20 years in business, it’s so sad to see one of London’s original vintage shops closing it’s doors. The owners are currently offering really good prices, so I got about £20 off the original price of this dress.

Blue Rose 1950s Dress OOTDI absolutely love the classic blue rose print, which is so bright and perfect for summer. It’s also a really comfortable dress. Fit-wise I find original vintage dresses are roomier across the chest and I rarely have problems with gaping buttons on my true vintage pieces. They also usually have wider arms than modern reproduction ones, which makes them much easier to wear.   The dress was just perfect for a lovely morning walk around a beautiful park.

Rose Print 1950s Blue Shirtwaister DressI’m wearing a 50s style What Katie Did bra under the dress. I don’t always wear vintage style lingerie, however for a dress like this I find traditional underthings will always create a better line.

Enid Collins Bag and Blue BanglesTo complete the look I added one of my favourite vintage Enid Collins handbags and a mix of blue vintage plastic bangles, which compliment the colour of the dress.

If you’re looking for original 1950s outfits, shirt dresses are a great place to start. They are quite easy to find and I’ve never had a problem finding them in slightly larger sizes.

Oh how sad that Radio Days is closing down. It’s my favourite vintage shop and I always try to visit when I’m in London

Pretty dress! Shame about Radio Days, I remember going in there many years ago. It’s a tough business, selling vintage! x

Phew! I am not the only one who notices the roomier bust in vintage dresses!? I thought it was just me due to my not so “perfect” measurements haha but yes, they do tend to be roomier, which can be nice compared to the restricting modern clothes. Especially the arms! AHH! It’s such a sad moment when a shirt/dress fits perfectly…but your arms are about to lose all feeling.

This dress looks fantastic on you, the blues really suit you!

Seriously beautiful outfit! I go wild for a 50s floral print dresses, too, and all the more when they’re shirtwaist styles, which I’d have zero qualms having a whole closet full of. 🙂

Ooohh, plus, can we talk about how awesome your hair looks here!

    xoxo ♥ Jessica
