FASHION – H&M William Morris Dress

October 24, 2018

As I mentioned recently, I’m making an effort not to buy too many new things this season. I already have lots of lovely stuff and I’m trying to keep my fast fashion buying down to a minimum. When I shop on the high street I try to go for classic items, that have a slightly retro feel and are completely me. I choose things that I know I will want to keep wearing for a few years. When I saw H&M’s William Morris range, I knew I had to get myself a couple of pieces.

I have always lovely William Morris prints and I really liked the 70s feel of two of the dresses from the collection. I did put off buying either of them to start with as I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the money. By the time I decided I definitely wanted a William Morris dress, it was harder to get my hands on them.

H&M William Morris DressI managed to find the shorter full sleeved William Morris dress in store, but only in a size 18. I usually wear a 14, but looking at it I thought it could work well a little looser and it definitely did. I can’t imagine that the 14 would have worked as well. I’d probably recommend going up one size, if you manage to get your hands on this one.

H&M William Morris DressI really love the length of the dress and the sleeves are absolutely gorgeous. I want to go on the hunt for some gorgeous 70s vintage dresses to carry on these amazing sleeve vibes!

H&M William Morris DressI wore it with some old maroon coloured tights and my trusty Clarks Orla Kiely shoes. I really like how this retro look came together and the print of the William Morris dress is just gorgeous.

H&M William Morris DressThe other William Morris dress I wanted, was much harder to get my hands on. I couldn’t find it in store anywhere. In the end I just checked online every day and eventually it came back in stock in my size. I went for a 14 in this one and it fit great, possibly even a little on the large side. It’s quite a loose fitting dress, which took a little getting used to as I usually like dresses that nip in at the waist. But actually I really love the loose flowyness of the dress.

H&M William Morris DressMy favourite part is the fabulously full skirt. There is so much fabric there and it feels amazing to wear. It’s quite warm too, so ideal for this time of year. The dress would be perfect for both Autumn and Spring and could be worn with a jacket for winter or for a summer evening event, so in that respect it’s pretty versatile.

I’m going to try to wear both dresses as much as I can over the season. I’m on a mission to wear new clothes as much as possible and repeat them more on social media. We’ve all got into a really bad habit of buying too many clothes and not wearing them enough and despite most of my clothes being second hand, I’m still very guilty and buying too much.

I will also be having a big downsize soon, so you can also shop my wardrobe. I’ll be adding true vintage pieces to my Etsy shop and repro and high street pieces to my Depop. I can’t say exactly when as I’m always busy with work and the kids, but it will be soon and I do plan to be pretty ruthless!

The trumpet sleeved dress is currently in stock in a few sizes and the patterned maxi dress is currently showing as sold out. You may be able to get your hands on one if you keep checking back. Lots of items from the rest of the William Morris collection are still available.

They look amazing on you! I have been really tempted to buy something from the range but, like you, I think I left it a little late

These are both lovely, but I especially like the shorter dress – what a good choice to get the much bigger size. It looks fabulous with those gorgeously coloured tights and the shoes!
