Vintage Inspiration – Black and Gold

January 31, 2025

One of my favourite colour combinations for vintage clothing, would have to be black and gold. It’s such a classic combination, which surpasses all eras and styles. Everyone should have at least one little black dress in their wardrobes and gold toned jewellery and accessories go well with every outfit and make the most simple outfits look sophisticated and well put together.

Although I sell a lot of colourful floral pieces on my shop and my wardrobe is basically a vintage rainbow, I love the formality of simple dark outfits that let the accessories do the talking. The right classic pieces will last for years and are brilliant wardrobe staples that can be reached for again and again.

I always do a winter collection with more formal pieces for the festive season, but I was so busy pre-christmas that I didn’t really get the chance to share some of the lovely things that I’d added to the shop. So I thought I’d pop a little blog post together to share some of the lovely pieces that I have. Many of which are currently reduced in my sale.

Black and Gold Vintage

It wouldn’t be me if I didn’t start with a lovely Laura Ashley dress! This black and gold acetate and velvet evening dress, is such a beauty. The skirt is a full circle and has actual metres of fabric. So classic and elegant!

One of my new loves is vintage Zardozi handbags, the beautiful intricate metalwork embellishments are absolutely stunning. I had two available recently including this one. But both are now sold. I’ll definitely be looking out for more when I’m sourcing for the shop from now on. SOLD OUT.

Another absolutely beautiful vintage Laura Ashley dress, this beautiful fitted dress in black velvet is so classic and wearable. The statement lace trim adds a little drama to an other wise simple dress.

Last year I was very lucky to source a lot of vintage beaded handbags from all eras, from classic 20s and 30s beaded bags to beautiful 50s and 60s cocktail bags. This one is a lovely 1980s St Michael bag, which I absolutely adore. I love how easy and wearable scrappy bags can be. Leaving your hands free to dance the night away.

And bags aren’t the only thing with gorgeous beaded embellishments. This beautiful top has the most fabulous details. I like the idea of dressing this up or down, it could be worn with some silky wide leg trousers for a more formal look or dressed down with jeans for a more casual party.

A slightly more casual option is this fabulous vintage jumpsuit with awesome front pocket details. I’ve styled it here with a black belt, but it could also look amazing with a gold one. SOLD.

I always have a few gold evening bags on the shop and they’ve always been one of my best sellers. I love the simple ones in gold vinyl with pretty gold clasps and chain handles. But I’m always really happy to find more interesting ones too. This lovely lamé bag is absolutely beautiful.

While the weather is cold, it’s great to add an extra layer to keep you cosy. This gorgeous black and gold vintage cardigan, is adorned with pretty bow details and lovely gold edged buttons, perfect for being both warm and glamorous.

If you’re looking to add the perfect little black dress to your wardrobe, you cannot fail with a simple 60s shift dress. This lovely shift has a metallic sheen to the fabric to make it a little more interesting and it could be glammed up with some excellent statement jewellery.

I love retro gold toned jewellery, especially in floral shapes. These gold earrings are perfect for pairing with simple classic outfits.

Velvet is one of my favourite fabrics for evening wear, this gorgeous 80s shift dress was one of my favourite pieces this season. An otherwise simple dress, this one has a fabulous cocktail pattern throughout. SOLD OUT

Another gorgeous velvet dress, this time by Laura Ashley. I love the super soft velvet and cosy long sleeves on this one. The perfect dress for winter.

A great addition to ever vintage jewellery box, would have to be beaded necklaces. I’m always restocking the shop with gorgeous beaded necklaces in both glass and plastic. This beautiful glass bead necklace with sparkly rhinestone details is absolutely perfect for dressing up a vintage outfit.

A for a very classic Chanel inspired look, you cannot go wrong with a little black dress and pearls combo! A match made in heaven. This gorgeous faux pearl necklace fastens with a beautiful gold toned box clasp.

This is just a small selection of the hundreds of beautiful vintage pieces I currently have available on the shop.
