Dress of the Day #20

December 14, 2012

I love winter dresses in 1950s shapes. Todays dress is just perfect for the winter months with a high neckline and longer sleeves, it’s almost impossible to find modern or reproduction dresses in this style and you just can’t beat the real thing.

The dress comes from Love Miss Daisy one of my favourite online collections of 1950s dresses. The dress features a beautiful paisly stripe pattern and a full slightly pleated skirt. I just love it and wish it was my size, this one a 10/12 and is suitable for an hourglass shape.

Heres the full description from the website….

This is a stunning velvet dress from the 1950’s or possibly early 60’s. It is made from a luscious black velvet fabric with a horizontal paisly striped design in shades of grey, blue and rust. The dress has a wide slash neckline which dips a little lower at the back. The waist is seamed and the full skirt flares from box pleats under the waistline. The dress has 3/4 length sleeves and it fastens with a back non-metal zip. The bodice is lined in black acetate.

What a wonderfully lovely, becoming, elegant dress. I suspect it’s very early 60s (something about the cut of the shoulders just gives me that vibe), but it could certainly be late 50s, too, and could definitely (and very easily) be styled in either direction.
