It’s Monday What Are You Reading?

March 18, 2013

I’ve not participated in It’s Monday for a few weeks. The time seems to have whizzed by with lot’s of spring cleaning and sleepless nights with a teething toddler and there’s been little time for reading or blogging.

This weekly meme is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey. It’s a chance to share the books you’ve read and plan to read over the next few days.

Since I last posted I have read Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford, The Island by Victoria Hislop, and I Capture the Castle by Dodi Smith.

Love in a Cold Climate is set in 1930’s and is set in the world of upper class England, it’s a brilliant read and an absolute classic.

The Island is set in Crete in the years surrounding the second world war and tells the story of a family over many years. This had been recommended to me by lot’s of people and I’m so glad I gave it a read.

I capture the castle is also set in the 1930s and is written in the voice of Cassandra a teenager who’d impoverished family live in a castle moved to in better times. It’s a wonderful book and I know it’s hugely popular but if you haven’t read it you must.

I’m abandoning the old reading list for now and working on a few books for The Vintage Book Group…

I can’t wait to read the first two. I’m unsure about reading Lolita due to the subject matter so I may give it a miss. Has anyone else read it? What did they think?

Having been too tired to read that much I have watched a lot of TV the last couple of weeks including these…

I’ve been in 1930s heaven with Dancing on The Edge, Glorious 39 and Love in a Cold Climate. The costumes are all AMAZING and have started a bit of a 30’s obsession.

What have you been reading and watching this week?

I thought the “vintage” in your blog title meant historical fiction and so I’ve skipped you, foolishly, it turns out, as I am a big fan of what you classify as vintage reads. I will be back!

I’ve been hooked on ‘Dancing on the edge’ too, amazing costumes, particularly Pamela’s outfits. I have to say I didn’t like Glorious 39, found it very depressing, but I am willing to give Love in a Cold Climate a go.

    I can’t wait to re-read Gatsby!

Yes Glorious 39 was very depressing. I was loving the costumes and hating the storyline!
I am so excited for the Gatsby film and can’t wait to read the book.
