My Vintage 1960s Hairdryer

December 6, 2013

I had wanted a vintage hairdryer for absolutely ages. I think they make great decorative items on dressing tables, and the pastel colours go really well with my bedroom. So I was delighted when I spotted one in the summer at a car boot sale in it’s original box. At only £3 I couldn’t leave it behind. It has no plug but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t use it anyway and I may get an electrician to put a new one on if I do ever want to get it working.

I had put it away in a cupboard waiting to be cleaned and found a home in my room, and managed to forget about it until this morning, so now it’s out I thought I’s take a few pictures and show it off!

I love the box, she is such a Betty Draper a-like!

I love that the original instruction are still in the box.

Does anyone else have one of these? If so have you managed to get it working?

omg, I love it! I have a dream where I have vintage everything (a little unrealistic) – I just love cute day-to-day items.

So do I! There are people who do literally have vintage everything in their homes, like a time capsule!

What a terrific find and bargain – it really looks like it’s in good shape (save for the missing plug, that is). The few from that era that I’ve seen in person in recent years (at vintage and antique shops) have all been about ten to twenty times what you paid for yours. I hope an electrician can get this pretty piece working for you again.

How lovely! I saw a pink one at a vintage fair recently which I didn’t buy, but maybe I will get one in the future – my bedroom is really modern so I don’t think it would fit the decor right now, but when I get my own house I would love to outfit it with vintage things.

I love your hairdryer. I’ve got a similar one which I was given for my birthday – I wrote about it in a recent blog post: http://nancysteashop.com/2013/09/18/vintage-styling-retro-birthday-gifts/ Mine has a light bulb attachment on the end of it so I tried it in a lamp base just to test it out and it worked! I’d like to have a standard plug fitted though so that it can be used more easily (and safely!)
