I love a good afternoon tea, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a little time with friends and there’s no better way to pass the time than enjoying a good cake. It’s such a quintessentially British way to pass the time especially while wearing the perfect vintage dress.
One great place in London to enjoy a little afternoon tea is the Reform Social and Grill in Marylebone, they launched their vintage afternoon tea in January and I think they’ve got it just right. The tea promises to be a journey through the 1940s and 50s and with options for both Gentleman and Ladies everyones bound to be happy.
Afternoon tea as we know it today rose to popularity in the 19th Century and is now enjoying a revival as a great way to pass an afternoon. The Reform Social and Grill are also introducing live music to the mix on the first Sunday every months starting on March 2nd. So while you sip your Earl Grey you will be transported back through the ages of jazz, swing and rock ‘n’roll.
Afternoon tea until now has been more of a treat for the ladies, however the Reform Social and Grill haven’t forgotten about the men and the Gentlemen’s afternoon tea was devised especially for the sophisticated male! The Gentlemen’s menu includes lemon pound cake, chocolate and stout cake and banana cake fancies, with toad in the hole, beans on toast, fish fingers and mushy pea savouries. And for you ladies who are now jealous of the amazing men’s option our menu looks amazing too! It includes jam roly poly, rose petal meringues and apple turnovers as well as classic scones and clotted cream and a selection of cucumber and cream cheese, smoked salmon and horseradish and duck egg mayo sandwiches – Delicious!
I couldn’t resist giving this fabulous afternoon tea a go, so I’ve booked in for April, and I absolutely can’t wait!
Dressing in your best vintage is actively encouraged so get that circle skirt and petticoat ready and enjoy a fabulous afternoon of tea cake and retro music!
The afternoon tea for ladies and gentlemen costs £26.50 per person or £32.50 for two hours of flowing champagne.

March 3, 2014 at 6:07 pmI went to afternoon tea on Saturday! There’s a vintage tea room where I live and I had some great lavender and jasmine tea. What’s your favourite kind?
