HOME – Interior Inspiration at Petersham Nurseries

September 10, 2018

One of my favourite places to stop for a quick cuppa and wander would have to be Petersham Nurseries. It’s one of the prettiest spots in London and since it’s near some of my other favourite places, I pop in quite frequently. I’ll often park at nearby Ham House and go for a run along the river and into Richmond and then run back through Petersham, so I can stop in for a coffee and a sit down!

Petersham Nurseries

Petersham Nurseries is located a short distance from Richmond Park and is a couple of minutes walk from the Thames path. It’s part garden centre, part antiques shop, part tea room and part restaurant. The aesthetic is French antique and shabby chic mixed with opulent plants and breathtakingly expensive candles and cosmetics. But for those of us on a budget, its a great place to grab a coffee, a small cactus and a lot of instagram snaps!

I paid Petersham a visit last week with three lovely friends in tow and I thought it would be nice to share a few of the pictures I took on here. If like me you love to fill your home with plants or if you love to decorate with curios, glassware and French brocante then this is definitely the dream!

Potting Shed

I love this look, the mixtures of old pots, moss, metal pieces with patina and opulent plants looks so beautiful. The dull tones bring out the beautiful greens. I’d love to fit this look in somewhere. I love the idea of recreating it on a smaller scale within a large terrarium or glass pot.

Cactus Garden

I honestly don’t think you can have too many house plants in your home, especially cacti. I love picking up interesting ones when I see them and we spotted some rather fabulous ones at Petersham Nurseries.

Vintage Halloween

It’s not quite time to be going halloween crazy yet, but little bits and bobs are starting to appear in the shops and I love this classy vintage take on the look.

Flea Market Chic

The Petersham look is all about found items, antiques and and shabby chic textures. Think distressed paint, lots of glass and worn metals all perfectly mixed together with clever uses of colour and finished with perfect plants and plants of moss.

Yellow and Green

Mix old stone, faded wood, glazed green pottery and rustic church candles for this warm look. Mirrors add depth and luxurious ferns give a soft botanic element to this gorgeous aesthetic. I’m a bit obsessed with ferns at the moment and want to put the in every corner of my house.

Pink and Green

For as long as I can remember, this has been my favourite colour combination. The two gorgeous shades compliment each other so well. For this look, mix shabby chic furniture with pink and green glass. A bright splash of pink flowers like the lovely hydrangeas pictured add a feminine touch. This whole arrangement is just so beautiful!

Old Character Pieces

There are a lot of quirky stone and wooden animal sculptures dotted around Petersham and I love all the lovely old characters. From big to small these beasts are an essential element of creating the Petersham look!

Faded Grandeur

For an old style French antique look, foxed antique mirrors and gold touches mix beautifully with old glass and chandeliers. Dried flowers create that faded grandeur look that can only truly be created with the wear and tear of time. Think Miss Haversham’s wedding feast minus the dust and heartbreak.

Petersham NurseriesThis is only a snippet of the gorgeous decor at Petersham Nurseries and I would definitely recommend a visit. Their displays are always changing and I love to see all the new things they’ve added each time I visit. As well as the site in Petersham they also have a shop in Covent Garden which is also very gorgeous.
