New Fabric and Sewing Projects

This week I’ve started a few new sewing projects. I’m supposed to be finishing my unfinished sewing, but as usual I’ve started something new! I decided I wanted a few new skirts and drafted up a pattern for a simple vintage style gathered skirt which I can make in lots of different fabrics. I also paid a little visit to Fabric Land today to get some new fabric to make them from.

I did a trial run, using a vintage duvet cover I got at a car boot sale, as I always like to try a new pattern before using special fabric. I have absolutely loads of this one. I’m really happy with the style although my sizing was terrible so this will need a little work before I can wear it.

I wanted to create something quite 40’s looking so this gathered skirt is perfect. I also wanted some gingham as I’ve seen so many beautiful clothes from the era in gingham prints. They are also the easiest fabrics to sew because the pattern has so many straight lines.

I picked up these four fabrics which are all quite different so I can’t wait to see what they all look like as skirts. I especially love the watermelons! I might do a tutorial for the skirt next week once I’ve perfected it. I’ll update you soon with my progress.

What do you think of my skirt and new fabrics? Do you have any sewing projects lined up?

I have had my eye on that watermelon fabric for a while too! Fabricland have a chilli pepper one i’m thinking about too! It’s a curse that Fabricland is a 10 minute walk from my office…i’m ashamed that the staff know me so well in there! lol

I LOVE the chilli pepper one. It’s next on my list. Fabric Land is a dangerous place.

I would love to see a tutorial for this skirt! I’m quite partial to gingham, it’s so fresh and lovely for spring and summer. So glad to have found your blog 🙂

I used to always be in the Fabricland Kingston as it was so close to my college but now I’m at uni I have to consciously decide when I’m going to go there and what I want! Love the watermelon print, and the chili one mentioned in another comment is also beautiful!

There’s also a vintage shop a few doors down from the Kingston one and a few charity shops so its my idea of heaven!
Now I want to go back for the chilli one, I literally had it in my hand but didn’t get it as I didn’t want black.
Going to have to make these skirts quickly so I can go back and get it now! Xxx
