Last week I shared my DIY decoupage halloween pumpkin decoration, which I made with some bits kindly gifted to me by Hobbycraft. They also let me choose some lovely things to do with the kids. I love getting lots of things together and letting the girls have free reign over what they create. I’m there to help, but it’s mostly about them having fun and making something creatively. They made some gorgeous halloween decorations and had lots of fun making them.
Halloween Craft Supplies
These are a few of the fantastic things from Hobbycraft, that the kids used to create their Halloween decorations.
Set of 4 mache pumpkin heads. £4.00
Wooden pumpkins (pack of 30) £2.50
Halloween glitter set £1.00
Halloween Decoupage papers £2.99
LED pumpkin light decoration. £3.00
Acrylic paint £1.50 each
I was really impressed with how affordable everything was. It was a great opportunity to get the little ones trying new crafts like decoupage and enjoying old favourites like painting and glitter.
Home-made Halloween Decorations
I like to just cover the floor and put everything out so the kids can make as much mess as they want.
The wooden pumpkins were perfect for decorating. They could be painted, covered in glitter and decoupaged. For grown ups there are lots of different things you could try. I like the idea of spray painting them or adding them to a halloween themed floral wreath.
The glitter set came with loads of different colours and we were very careful not to waste any. We got so much use out of the set, which came with lots of colours and only cost £1. I used some of the black glitter on my pumpkin decoration.
This was Lila’s first time doing decoupage. I think watching me do my pumpkins helped her pick up the general idea. I think her light looked amazing when it was finished.
The Finished Decorations
I absolutely loved the finished decorations and think they look great mixed in with my Halloween display on my sideboard. I hope the kids feel proud seeing their lovely work on display too. Once Halloween is over, I’ll pack them away in my Halloween box and bring them out again next year.
One of the things they enjoyed the most, was simply covering stuff in glitter. We used the decoupage glue for the glitter and it stuck really well.
The mache pumpkins were so fun to do and they worked well with decoupage papers and paint as well as with glitter. If they do them again next year I’m going to stock up and we can do loads.
The pumpkin LED lights looked amazing when they were done. the light was really bright and these are now some of my favourite decorations.
I was so impressed by Lila’s finished decoupage LED light. For a first attempt at a new craft, it looked amazing!
We had so much fun making these and it’s definitely something I would recommend for both kids and adults. Now I’m getting even more excited for Christmas, in fact I really want to start making Christmas stuff next week!
*Thank you to Hobbycraft for letting me choose some products to get creative and review. All opinions as always are my own.
